Air Canada Aeroplan Status Match (Only for US Based Programs & US Residents)

Air Canada Star Alliance Livery

Air Canada‘s relatively new frequent flyer program, Aeroplan, is offering a status match for all members of US-based programs, except United MileagePlus. You would keep the status until the end of the year and can extend its validity by another full year by simply flying one Air Canada round trip. Sadly, however, this status match is limited to US residents.

The status match is available for members of the following programs:

The following table shows which status corresponds to each Aeroplan status:

Your status will be valid until December 31, 2021. If you fly a round trip with Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, or Air Canada Express before January 15, 2022, your status will be extended until December 31, 2022. You can read the exact terms of service here.

Status Levels & Benefits

Aeroplan has five status levels: 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K, and SUPER ELITE. These are many minor benefits, so we’ve decided to list the main benefits that you’ll get for each level:

25K (Star Alliance Silver)

  • Priority Reservation Waitlist
  • Priority Airport Standby
  • 2 x 23 kg complimentary checked baggage allowance on Air Canada flights
  • 2 Maple Leaf Lounge guest passes
  • 25 eUpgrade credits
  • 25% bonus miles

35K (Star Alliance Silver)

  • All 25K benefits
  • 3 x 32 kg complimentary checked baggage allowance on Air Canada flights
  • Priority security clearance on Air Canada flights
  • Complimentary access to Maple Leaf Lounges before short-haul flights in North America
  • 30 eUpgrade credits
  • 35% bonus miles

50K (Star Alliance Gold)

  • All previously mentioned benefits
  • Priority airport check-in
  • Priority baggage handling
  • Priority boarding
  • Complimentary airport lounge access
  • 3 Maple Leaf Lounge guest passes
  • Air Canada Café access
  • 40 eUpgrade credits
  • 50% bonus miles

75K (Star Alliance Gold)

  • All previously mentioned benefits
  • Guaranteed economy class seat
  • 55 eUpgrade credits
  • 75% bonus miles
  • Gift 35K status to a friend

SUPER ELITE (Star Alliance Gold)

  • All previously mentioned benefits
  • Complimentary preferred seats
  • Air Canada Concierge Service
  • 4 Maple Leaf Lounge guest passes
  • Access to London Heathrow Arrivals Lounge
  • 70 eUpgrade credits
  • 100% bonus miles
  • Gift 50K status to a friend
  • Free changes and cancellations for award flights

Bottom Line

The match for each status is not exactly very generous. The Delta SkyMiles Gold status, for instance, is worth much more than the Aeroplan 35K status that you’d be getting. However, the requirements for extending the status for a full year are quite easy. If you can get the 50K status, you should definitely go for it, as this is probably one of the easiest ways to secure a Star Alliance Gold status.

While there aren’t currently many Air Canada deals from Europe for the end of the year, you could get that Air Canada roundtrip by flying to North America and then taking a short and cheap round trip from there. Feel free to browse through our deals for flights to North America:

Thanks for the report. Can you give any examples of “cheap roundtrips”? Even from the US the cheapest I could find was $380 for a same-day return LA – Vancouver. Thanks a lot

Unfortunately it is not for overseas members, you have to reside in the U.S. too 🙁
