BREAKING: South America Starting at €144 with Avianca from Spain

South American Star Alliance member Avianca currently sells ridiculously cheap tickets to Latin American destinations with departure from Europe. Starting in Spain, you can reach Bogotá for amazingly cheap €147.

All prices are carry-on only, checking a 23 kg piece of luggage increases the price by €50 per flight. We have no information if Star Alliance Gold status enables you to check bags for free in this booking class. You can find flights at these fares until June 2021.

Avianca has withdrawn this offer.

  • There are currently heavy restrictions on travel to South America to slow the spread of Covid-19. Infection numbers on the continent are very high.
  • There is currently no passenger service between Europe and Colombia. As soon as travel restarts, there may still be restrictions on transit to other countries.
  • Avianca has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is currently undergoing a restructuring process. Colombia was stopped to pay aid to the airline. Your money may be lost if the restructuring is unsuccessful.
  • The pricing may be the result of a computing error by Avianca. Tickets booked for these fare may be voided by the airline.

If you are looking for oneway tickets, fares like Madrid – Bogotá at €123 may interest you. Even Business Class trips are available at very low prices. These are available until March 2021, when travel might still be heavily restricted:

It is possible to combine business class and economy fares, too. This way, you can get round trips for €600.

Long haul flights are mostly Boeing 787 Dreamliner rides. Depending on your origin, a feeder flight with Iberia maybe necessary. Some origins include a railways ticket.

According to the fare rules, these tickets should be available until September 18, 2020 08:59 CEST. We don’t expect this offer to last this long. You can find flights at the lowest fare until June 2021.

Use Google Flights (Anleitung) to find out when prices are lowest. On many occasions, Google displays the wrong fare and price double when going to Avianca’s website. We recommend booking via

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Avianca tries really hard to sell you checked bags on top of your ticket. If the following screen pops up, click Close in the top right corner. After clicking Continue on the next screen, you can proceed with your booking.
