Thailand: £646/€753 Star Alliance Premium Economy From London

Swiss Premium Economy Sitz

Star Alliance carriers Lufthansa, Austrian, and Swiss are offering great fares to Thailand in their premium economy cabin. Prices start at £646 (~€753) for London to Bangkok roundtrips. Further destinations include Trat, Krabi, Phuket, and many more airports in Thailand. All itineraries feature a layover, usually in Zurich, and a second layover in Bangkok (if that isn’t your final destination).

There’s almost daily availability from late March onward. Feel free to enter your preferred dates and destination in our search form below, and you’ll be redirected to Lufthansa’s booking site.

All itineraries are usually operated by Swiss with a layover in Zurich. You’ll sit in economy for the short haul trip and enjoy Lufthansa’s premium economy on your long haul flight. If you’re flying to a destination other than Bangkok, you’ll be flown there with a connecting flight, operated by Bangkok Airways in economy class.

Warning

We expect further shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe may very well change.

Search & Book

This fare can be booked for flights without a specific travel period, though we were only able to find availability starting late March. The fare has no expiration date and can thus be withdrawn anytime. The minimum stay requirement is of 6 days (or a Sunday). Furthermore, your stay cannot exceed 12 months. These flights can’t be canceled, but can be rebooked without having to pay a rebooking fee.

We recommend looking for flight dates on Google Flights (instructions). Enter the dates you’ve found in our flight search above to then purchase your tickets on lufthansa.com (which is the safest way).

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

The only programs that have already announced how much they’ll be crediting for SWISS’s new premium economy class are Miles&More and LATAM pass. Here’s what you’d get for flying to Bangkok (and back):

  • 12,232 Award Miles on LATAM Pass

The European economy class flights from London are issued in booking class Y, the long-haul premium economy flights in booking class N, and Bangkok Airways’ flights in booking class Q.

Information & Tips for Thailand

Thailand is an increasingly popular holiday destination for Europeans – both beach and party tourists get their money’s worth in the South Asian tropical state.
Whether Bangkok, Koh Samui or Phuket, Thailand offers multi-faceted cities and quiet beaches. Also, the country is always easy to reach from Europe. Especially to Bangkok, there is almost always at least a good deal!

Best Time to Visit

While hot summer temperatures prevail the whole year long in tropical Thailand, the best travel time is definitely the winter from November to February. Thanks to the northwest monsoon it doesn’t get warmer than 33 degrees. In summer the temperatures can quickly reach 40 degrees. The rainy season also starts in June and will last until October – high humidity is what you’ll have to prepare for!
