Cheap tickets to South Africa are now available from Luxembourg with Lufthansa & Swiss. Prices start at €389 for the roundtrip in Lufthansa’s light fare. Flights are available in November 2022 and early 2023. Your trip is either via Frankfurt or Zurich. Since this is a light fare, checked luggage is not included. For €100 more per roundtrip, you can add 23 kg of checked luggage to your booking.
Please be aware that some restrictions are still in place right now because of the Coronavirus. A negative PCR test is required when entering South Africa unless you are vaccinated. Since this fare can be booked for travel until May 2023, Covid may be history until then, or restrictions may be further eased.
The cheapest tickets are not refundable and rebooking would cost you a €150 fee and the fare difference. The fare with luggage is rebookable for free (+ fare difference).

Lufthansa uses a Boeing 747 or Airbus A350 for the long-haul leg of the journey. Swiss uses the Airbus A340. Please note that you have to start your journey from the starting point of your travel. You cannot leave out the first leg of the journey because your ticket will be cancelled after that due to a “no show”. Only on the way back, you can leave out the last leg of your journey (of course only accidentally ;-)).

According to the fare rules, the minimum stay requirement is 6 days. Your travel duration cannot exceed 12 months. You can find possible travel dates via Google Flights (instructions). You can then book directly via Lufthansa or Swiss. Both websites are basically the same.
