Lufthansa Wide-bodies on European Routes: A330/A340 to Barcelona & Paris, Boeing 747 to Hamburg in May

Lufthansa Boeing 747-400

Star Alliance member Lufthansa has recently garnered some attention by deploying their Boeing 747 between Frankfurt and Palma de Mallorca in April. In May, Lufthansa continues to serve short-haul routes with long-haul airplanes. With departure from Frankfurt, you can reach Barcelona and Paris onboard the Airbus A330-fleet. On domestic flights to Hamburg, the 747 takes over five rotations.

Neither we nor Lufthansa can guarantee the planes will operate the following schedules as planned. They can always be swapped for a regular A320 family plane. You are not entitled to a refund if this happens.

Boeing 747-400 on Frankfurt-Hamburg

Lufthansa has scheduled the Jumbo on five days in May 2023:

  • May 2, 2023
  • May 4, 2023
  • May 11, 2023
  • May 18, 2023
  • May 25, 2023

The plan for it is to serve the following rotation:

  • LH 2 FRA-HAM: 06:30 – 07:40
  • LH 9 HAM-FRA: 08:30 – 09:40

The cheapest oneways are currently available for the following prices:

Since the flight leaves from Frankfurt before the European morning bank arrives and Hamburg has no possible Lufthansa connection flights, it’s rather difficult to purchase tickets from other European countries with a sensible itinerary.

Lufthansa has scheduled the four engine jet on the following days in May 2023:

  • May 2
  • May 7
  • May 9
  • May 14
  • May 16
  • May 21

The A340 will operate the following flights:

Not quite as spectacular as a four engine plane, but still a rare guest in Paris, the Lufthansa A330 visits on the following dates:

  • May 3
  • May 10
  • May 17
  • May 26

It will fly the same rotations as its bigger sister:

  • LH 1026 FRA-CDG: 07:05 – 08:20
  • LH 1027 CDG-FRA: 09:35 – 10:50

Prices are the same, as well:

While it is not the most spectacular plane, at least it is the longest flight. The A330 will fly to Spain on these days:

  • May 2
  • May 4
  • May 9
  • May 11
  • May 16
  • May 21

The flights in question are these:

  • LH 1134 FRA-BCN: 14:00 – 16:00
  • LH 1135 BCN-FRA: 17:05 – 19:15

You can book these flights for the following prices:

Since these fares are remarkably pricey for a European one-way ticket, we recommend booking either a roundtrip or adding a second leg. Even combining it with LH 9 from Hamburg (operated by a Boeing 747-400) is possible.

European Widebody Combination

It is actually cheaper (and more rewarding) to combine the flights from/to Barcelona with an additional European flight. The 747 flight from Hamburg is the best option.

To make sure you get both widebody flights in your itinerary, we recommend using Lufthansa’s or our multistop search:

All planes in question feature a premium economy cabin. Tickets for these seats are sold as economy tickets. You can secure yourself a little extra-leg room by purchasing an economy ticket and paying the extra-fee for seat selection.

Search & Book

While finding the oneway tickets is simple with the data provided above, Google Flights’ map tool can help you if you are looking for a connecting flight.
