Auckland: €536 Oneway Business Class From Dubai With Oman Air & Malaysia Airlines

Neuseeland

Oman Air and Malaysia Airlines are offering cheap business class oneway fares to Auckland, New Zealand. We’ve found flights originating from Dubai and Cairo at really low fares. Prices start at €536 from Dubai and €687 from Cairo.

Update

This deal was originally offered by Oman Air. It is still available, but you have to purchase tickets with an online travel agency to get the quoted price.

Update 2: This deal is still available on omanair.com. While third party booking sites won’t display the fares correctly, you can still use the travel dates you found on the carrier’s website. Thanks tuareg & Martin!

Warning

If you are looking for a oneway flight to Oceania, this is a very attractive offer. However please note the following:

  1. Due to the Corona pandemic, there are travel restrictions almost everywhere around the world. When those will be relieved and when the crisis will end, remains uncertain. However, this deal has availabilities until March, 2021. The fare is non-flexible.
  2. Only oneway tickets TO Auckland are cheap. Therefore, this fare may only make sense if you plan to do an around the world trip, or if you want to move to Auckland, New Zealand.

An Oman Air Airbus A330-200 will take you from Muscat to Kuala Lumpur. The long trip to New Zealand brings you lie-flat-seats in Malaysian Airlines’ business class.

Warning

When booking this fare, you need to make sure that all segments on your tickets are issued in business class. For that, the segment from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland has to have an Oman Air flight number (f.e. WY5380). Otherwise this segment will be in economy class as shown in the following screenshots:

Do not book fares with this a Malaysia Airlines flight number: 10 hours economy instead of lie-flat business class on this Malaysia Airlines segment

We would recommend making a screenshot of the booking process where all segmentds are displayed in business class.

Search & Book

Availability is pretty good in February and March 2021. At this point, any booking earlier than September 2020 seems risky in face of the Covid-19 pandemic, as travel restrictions are unlikely to be lifted worldwide.

You can book this fare with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur as well. If this is of interest, have a look at the Flyertalk thread, where this is explained in detail (as it is a bit more complicated).

You can find your preferred travel dates with the ITA Matrix (instructions). We suggest to use this parameters:

Enter the dates on which the cheapest fare is available in our Flight search to find an OTA that sells these tickets. The better way is to enter the dates on omanair.com and purchase these tickets on their website to benefit from a better refund policy, amidst other things:

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

The ticket is issued in booking class R. Miles for the Oman Air segments can only be credited to either Oman Air Sindbad or Etihad Guest at 150%. This should accrue around 9,500 miles in either program. Unfortunately, we do not know how the Malaysia Airlines segments will be credited.

Hotels

It always makes sense to compare location, prices and reviews of possible hotels at your destination. What better way to do this than with our preferred hotel booking platform booking.com?

Information & Tips for Auckland

Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with a population of approximately 1.5 million and a wide range of tourist attractions and activities for visitors. The city is also an excellent starting point to explore the rest of New Zealand. Auckland is connected to Southeast Asia and Asia pretty well, even non-stop flights to the USA are available. As of now, you’ll have to switch planes at least once when flying to New Zealand from Europe. But this may change since long-range flights are hitting new limits all the time

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Auckland is between March and May and September and November. These are the times when you’ll find comparatively few tourists and can enjoy sunny days and moderate temperatures.

  1. Martin says:

True! Skyscanner no longer shows low prices for the Oman Air website, but once you get there it still has the 2000AED pricing. So the update in the article can have an updated text to reflect this… 😉

  2. Tuareg says:

This deal is still available, seems that only the start from Zurich was corrected.

  3. Stefan says:

Am I missing something? i thought that New Zealand has closed its borders to foreigners?

    • Dennis Schäfer says:

That is true, but they closed the borders temporarily, and not for good.

Also, I think you indeed may have missed something. We have mentioned this information right in the beginning of the deal:
Due to the Corona pandemic, there are travel restrictions almost everywhere around the world. When those will be relieved and when the crisis will end, remains uncertain. However, this deal has availabilities until March, 2021. The fare is non-flexible.
