New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington: £1,219/€1,393 SAS Business Class from the United Kingdom

SAS Business Class LAX CPH Kabine 2

Star Alliance (and future SkyTeam) member Scandinavian Airlines currently runs an attractive sale for numerous transatlantic connections. They have also discounted business class fares from British cities Birmingham, Manchester and London to New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington D.C. Prices start as low as £1,219 (~€1,418) for roundtrips between London and the Big Apple.

You can find the following fares to New York with departure from:

The following prices are possible to Boston:

You can also fly to Chicago:

…or to Washington, DC:

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips from London up to 28 days. It will forward you to SAS with your selected flight dates. To find the cheapest fare on SAS’ website, you need to change the country selection to UK. The easiest way to do that is to put gb- in front of the en part of the URL. You can also check what OTAs have to offer, as they sell these tickets up to €30 cheaper.

You can also fly to Californian destinations Los Angeles and San Francisco if you are willing to invest more than £1,500 (~€1,745).

All itineraries require at least one stop in each direction in one of SAS’ three hubs (Copenhagen, Stockholm or Oslo). Our prices don’t include itineraries with overnight layovers even if those would be slightly cheaper. In some cases, you will fly to Chicago first and then take a United Airlines plane to your destination.

SAS uses a mixture of Airbus A321LR, Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 aircraft on their transatlantic routes. All of these planes feature a fairly modern business class section with lie-flat seats.

Scandinavian airline SAS has very big and comfortable seats, each offering direct access to the aisle. There’s a lot of storage room and also a very big desk which is perfect to work. The seats alternate between either being directly next to the window or directly at the aisle. Another upside of flying SAS: Free unlimited Wi-Fi! The SAS business class is therefore definitely not a bad choice for hard-working businessmen.

According to the fare rules, this fare will expire on November 27, 2023. There is a minimum stay of 6 nights or a Saturday night. The ticket is not subject to a maximum stay rule.

You can use our calendar above that will show you availabilities. Once you select your dates, it will forward you to either SAS’ website or to the Travel-Dealz Flight Search with your preselected flight dates. In this case, we don’t recommend booking through online travel agencies (OTAs) as their savings are minimal. You can also search more specifically on Google Flights (instructions) for example by setting filters. You can then use our Go2 browser extension to book your flights.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

SAS issues tickets for all flight segments in booking class J. You would get the following mileage for a roundtrip from London to Newark via Oslo:

  • 17,744 Miles on TAP Miles&Go
  • 15,062 Award Miles + 150 Tier Points on Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Warning

SAS has announced that it will leave the Star Alliance to join SkyTeam. The date of the switch is unknown. Careful: Flights to Boston are usually very cheap from Europe (starting at €200 without checked baggage), but the hotel prices are among the most expensive in the USA!

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to travel to Boston is from late summer to autumn. While the beginning of the summer can still be rainy and cool, the weather from August to October is most suitable for touristic purposes – temperatures are mild and precipitation is comparatively low.

Information & Tips for USA

The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.

Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements

The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA)  for approximately €20, you don’t need a visa for entry.

The Best Time to Visit

Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.

Currency

The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.

    • Ditmar Lange says:

      Hi Frun,
SAS’ website displays earnings of 15,000 points.

      • Frun says:

Ok, thanks. It’s just funny when it’s a sas flight offer but the SAS Eurobonus mile earning is not written in the article. The same with the other SAS flight offer.

        • Ditmar Lange says:

Yeah, SAS Eurobonus has a relatively complex system for SAS flights, giving a fixed amount of points for specific routes. We’re working on implementing it soon for our mileage calculator.
