Dublin: €300/$329 SAS Flights from Newark (Cabin Bags Only, Overnight Layover Required)

Dublin

Star Alliance member SAS is currently running a large sale for transatlantic flights. One of the best economy class offers are roundtrips from Newark to Dublin for just US$329 (~€309). Sadly, you need to spend a night in Copenhagen, Stockholm or Oslo to get the lowest fare. Adding a checked bag increases the price to €380 (~US$409) on SAS’ website.

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates for less than €300 (~US$323) for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to Scandinavia Airlines with your selected flight dates. You can also check what OTAs have to offer, as they sell these tickets up to $30 cheaper.

There are plenty of possible routings. SAS will first take you from Newark to one of their three European hubs. You will board either an Airbus A321LR to Oslo, an Airbus A330-300 to Stockholm or an Airbus A350-900 to Copenhagen. All these planes come with personal inflight entertainment and a more space than SAS’ European cabins.

While the outbound flights are fairly straightforward, the inbounds usually necessitate two layovers, an overnight layover or both. The calendar above only displays travel times of less than 33 hours to seed out the most ridiculous itineraries.

We have not been able to locate fare rules for these flights, but it’s a pretty safe bet they will expire alongside SAS’ other promotional offers on May 15, 2023. You can find these tickets between the end of September 2023 and February 2024. Availability is fairly good.

Google Flights will show you additional flight dates. While online travel agencies offers the cheapest tickets, you should purchase fares including checked bags on the airlines’ website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

SAS issues these tickets in booking class T. Your options to earn miles and points are not that great, the following is a roundtrip with a stop in Stockholm both ways:

  • 4,930 Award Miles + 818 PQP on United MileagePlus
  • 2,466 Miles on Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
  • 2,210 Award Miles + 160 Points on Miles&More
  • 1,960 Award Miles + 50 Tier Points on Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • 600 Points on SAS EuroBonus

Hotel prices in Dublin usually start at roughly €60 to €85, depending on the hotel category and the specific dates. Whichever category and hotel you opt for, make sure to get the best price! Our recommendation is to search on booking.com, or even on our own Travel-Dealz hotel search:
