Budget airline Wizz Air recently announced 20 new routes to Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The country, which opened up to tourists and has big tourism plans is normally very expensive to fly to. The route between Budapest and Dammam currently sells as low as €40, while many other routes are also available for less than €100. Even better, if you have the Wizz Air Discount Club membership (which we detail in this deal), the price lowers to €20.
There are two negative points, however:
- The price only includes a personal item (40x30x20 cm). Wizz is very unreliable when it comes to luggage costs, heavily depending on the route, time of booking, time of flight etc. Prices for a carry-on bag start at €26 per flight and the airport price is €25 if you buy it three hours in advance. You can check in a 20 kg bag for €72 per flight.
- The visa options aren’t cheap: an eVisa can set you back SAR 535 (~€132) while the visa on arrival costs SAR 480 (~€119).
Please note that Wizz Air doesn’t participate in visa-free transit programs. This means that passengers wishing to transit through Saudi Arabia would need to go through immigration even if they only have carry-on bags.
The cheapest flights are available to the coastal city of Dammam. Here are some other examples of low prices for roundtrips to Saudi-Arabia:
- Rome to Dammam for €40
- Budapest to Dammam for €40 (~HUF 15,275)
- Vienna to Dammam for €40
- Sofia to Riyadh for €45 (~BGN 88)
- Budapest to Riyadh for €50 (~HUF 19,094)
- Rome to Riyadh for €50
There are many more possibilities. You can use Wizz Air’s Fare Finder to find your ideal route. You can also use our availability calendar to search for flights. Once you selected your preferred dates, it will forward you to Wizz Air’s website, where you can book your journey.
Flight dates are very scattered, with availabilities showing up until April 2024. The best prices are more broadly available between November 2023 and January 2024.

Wizz Air operates a fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft. Speaking from experience, we can recommend booking A320ceo services (30 rows) as you have a chance for a comfier aircraft, with some even having recline. You may want to fill your water bottles and buy some food before departure since food and drinks are more expensive than on Ryanair (with fewer hot meal options).
Search & Book
The flights are sold as one-ways, and you can combine two different tickets. You can even miss your outbound on a return flight since Wizz Air is a low-cost airline. Therefore, no minimum or maximum stay applies. Since there is no expiration date for this deal, prices may rise or even decrease at any time.
We recommend avoiding travel between March 10 and April 8, 2024. Saudi Arabia celebrates Ramadan during this time, reducing public life in the country to a minimum.
You can look for flights using the links above, which will guide you to the airline’s best price search. Google Flights could be used when looking for one-ways, although they usually don’t sync Wizz prices well. As mentioned earlier, Wizz Air’s Fare Finder might be the best option.
You should always book flights on wizzair.com. Other websites sell add-ons for much more and adding them after booking is usually more pricey. You’ll also have limited access to your booking, which can be really annoying considering Wizz Air’s tendency to frequently change flights.
Wizz Air Discount Club
Wizz Air has a pretty interesting membership programme. Don’t expect miles or statuses, but one could argue that it’s even better. For just €40 (2 persons) or €70 a year, you can get ~€10 discount per person per flight in addition to a discount on bags. An important addition is that the discount only applies to flights which cost more than €20. (Although they usually put a smaller discount on cheaper flights which will reduce the fare to €10.

Please note that Wizz Air usually sells tickets in the currency of the departure country. For these flights, they convert the savings to the local currency, which can happen at pretty and market rates.
To get a Wizz Air Discount Club (WDC) membership, you need to select the WDC price when you search for flights (see in the above gallery). After that, you will have to accept the terms and add WDC to your basket. The membership will be valid for one year after the date of the booking. This means that you can book fares with a WDC discount for one calendar year. Your trip can be after the expiration date as the booking date matters.
If you are booking a round-trip for two people or if you are flying Wizz Air at least 4 times alone, then it is definitely worth it to buy the Standard membership. If a family goes on a round trip, it will also pay off.
Destination
Hotel prices in Saudi Arabia usually start at roughly €70, depending on the hotel category. Whichever category and hotel you opt for, make sure to get the best price! Our recommendation is to search on booking.com, or even on our own Travel-Dealz hotel search:

Please note that Wizz Air usually denies boarding if you would transit in the country with the explanation of “being a point-to-point airline”.
Sorry, guys, but what on Earth are you on about? Having transited A LOT with Wizz Air throughout the years, I’m not sure at which point would you get the chance to explain that you’re transiting only for them to retort with the denied boarding.
Hi! We mean it for flights where visa restrictions apply, in this case, Saudi Arabia. If you’d travel without a visa using the transit rule, you would be denied boarding. For these flights, most passengers have to check in at the airport and they’ll check your documents there. Unfortunately, I speak from a personal experience when Wizz Air flew to Russia. Of course, you can transfer on your own risk intra-EU or intra-visa-free countries with Wizz Air without problems.
I plan to go BUD-RUH(different airline)DXB. From what I am seeing online as long as its not more than 12 hours then its not a problem.
According to recent experience on Reddit, a self-transit on separate tickets is NOT possible in Saudi Arabia. And definitely not when flying Wizzair:

So you will have to apply for a transit visa, that’s probably more costly than your flight to Riyadh.
