Officially Confirmed: Lounge Access for Miles&More Senators Flying in Eurowing’s Basic Fare

Eurowings beim Taxi in Hamburg

In recent years, Miles&More Senators could only access the lounge with Eurowings tickets if they had booked at least the Smart fare. This restriction has been lifted with immediate effect. In other words: Lounge access is now granted again, even with the Basic fare.

It seems this hasn’t worked perfectly just yet. For instance, we received a comment that the lounge in Cologne/Bonn was not aware of this change and denied access. However, since yesterday, there have been more positive reports.

Now, Eurowings has finally updated the conditions on their own website. The following details have been confirmed:

  • Senators can access the lounges of Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines even with the Eurowings Basic fare – including 1 guest.
  • Access also applies to partner lounges from third-party providers (e.g., in Cologne/Bonn), but without a guest. A list of participating lounges is available here.
  • For Frequent Travellers (FTL), nothing changes. They still need to book at least the Smart fare for lounge access.

The access conditions on the Lufthansa and Austrian websites have not yet been updated. However, the Swiss website has already been updated, revealing an interesting detail. According to it, lounge access with a Eurowings ticket is now also permitted upon arrival:

A Eurowings ticket now also gets you into the lounge after your flight

It’s likely that Lufthansa will follow soon. This would definitely be a positive change.

Reversal of 2017 Change

Eurowings is reversing an unpopular change from the past. The restriction of lounge access to fares from Smart and above was implemented only in 2017. At that time, the justification was:

We did not make this decision lightly, but we hope for your understanding that we can no longer offer additional services with a pure flight fare.

The downgrade affected both Senators and HON Circle Members equally. Later, at least members of the highest status (HON Circle) were allowed back into the lounge with the Basic fare.

Do you have the chance to test the new regulation in the coming days? Feel free to share your experience in the comments.
