With the MS Rotterdam from Holland America Line, you can embark on a relaxing transatlantic crossing in March 2026. The journey takes you from Fort Lauderdale (Miami) to Rotterdam and includes stops in England and Belgium. The current price of €86 per night for a balcony cabin is a true bargain on such a classic route.
You can currently book this 14-night cruise in an inside cabin from just €999 per person. However, the real highlight of this deal is the balcony cabin, available from just €1,199, the exact same price as an outside cabin. Suites are also available starting from €1,799 per person. Unfortunately, the price for solo travellers has a hefty surcharge, starting at €1,798 for an inside cabin and €2,198 for a balcony cabin.

The cruise price includes full board in the main and buffet restaurants, as well as coffee, water, tea, and iced tea during the buffet’s opening hours. Most onboard facilities and activities (e.g., use of sun loungers and pools on the outer deck, shows in the theatre, gym, etc.) are also included in the package.
Holland America Line adds an automatic crew gratuity of approx. US$17 (~€14) per person, per day to your onboard account. This can be adjusted at the guest services desk if necessary.
Editor’s Note: If you want to take a transatlantic cruise that’s a step up from MSC, Carnival, or Royal Caribbean, this is your sailing, especially considering the price for a balcony. If the price for a single cabin weren’t so high, I would book it for myself.
The Route
The journey begins in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After departure, you will have plenty of time to explore the amenities of the MS Rotterdam as you spend several consecutive days crossing the Atlantic Ocean. This is the perfect opportunity to unwind, enjoy the Music Walk, or relax by the pool.
Your first stop is in Falmouth, England, the gateway to the picturesque coast of Cornwall. The next day, you stop in Portland, located on the stunning Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its geological history.
The ship then heads to Southampton, offering easy connections to London or historic Winchester. Before the final leg, you will dock in Zeebrugge, Belgium. From here, it is a short trip to the medieval city of Bruges, famous for its canals, chocolate, and waffles.
The cruise concludes in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the ship’s namesake and home port. The terminal is centrally located, making for an easy disembarkation and journey home.

Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$40 (~€34) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.
There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.
The Ship
The Rotterdam is Holland America Line’s newest ship. Commissioned in 2021, it succeeds the previous Rotterdam, which now sails as the MS Borealis. It is nearly identical in construction to its sister ships, the Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam. The ship accommodates 2,650 passengers across 12 passenger decks.
With dimensions of 300 by 35 meters, the ship is designed to fit the maximum specifications of the new Panama Canal locks and can reach speeds of up to 22 knots.
There are a total of 11 dining options, 4 of which are included in the cruise fare. As is customary with American cruise lines, water, tea, and coffee are available free of charge. Gratuities amount to approx. $17 per person, per night. Payments on board are made in US dollars using your cruise card, and the official language on board is English.
Holland America Line encourages a smart-casual dress code for dining and events, focusing on a classic cruising experience without the gimmicky attractions of other ships.
