Oneworld members American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, British Airways and Finnair are teaming up to bring you discounted business class flights from Budapest to Hawaii, starting at HUF 648,400 (~€1,658). All flights include two layovers – one in Europe and one in North America. You can fly at this price between December 2022 and May 2023.
You have to be fully vaccinated for at least 14 days to enter the United States, with an approved vaccine, unless you are a US resident/citizen. You can read more about the entry requirements at the CDC.
These tickets are not covered by any eased-up rebooking rules. If you book through American Airlines, you’d only have to pay a free difference to modify your flights.
You can book the following example trips:
- To Honolulu at HUF 649,200 (~€1,660)
- To Kahului at HUF 648,400 (~€1,658)
Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest fare for trips up to 28 days. To book flights through the AA website, you can use Google Flights or our flight search tool. You need to book at least 180 days before the departure to get the lowest fare.

All itineraries feature at least two stops, one in Europe and one in North America. Sadly, only the transatlantic passage is guaranteed to feature a proper lie-flat-business class seat. Flights between the Pacific Coast and Hawaii are almost always domestic first class, so you would spend six hours in a recliner seat. If you want to spend your trip to Hawaii in a long-haul business cabin, you have to look for routings via Dallas (DFW).
British Airways was one of the first airlines to offer lie-flat seats – over 20 years ago. And they still continue to be up to date with the newest trends, each seat offering direct access to the aisle. Their best seats are the Club Suites that offer a lot of privacy – but the older seats are fine as well. A general downside at British Airways: there is no free seat reservation, which is unusual for a business class.
Even if American Airlines doesn’t enjoy a good reputation for many, its business class is very good. Every seat on wide-body planes has direct access to the aisle and the service, as well as the food and the seat, are at a very high standard. Travel-Dealz founder Johannes tested the Boeing 777 and really enjoyed the flight.

The fare rules give no expiration date for this deal. Since prices fluctuate heavily on these routes, you’re better off being decisive. A minimum stay of six days applies, or at least one night from Saturday to Sunday. You can travel there on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and back on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You need to book at least 180 days before the departure to get the lowest fare.
If you’re looking for specific flight dates or want to check general availability, you can use Google Flights (instructions). If you’d like to customize your journey to include specific flights, you could also use the ITA Matrix. You can add layovers in different US cities (Dallas, New York, Los Angeles etc) either to get more miles/tier points or to fly on a better product.

The easiest option, however, is using our calendar above, which will redirect you to British Airways’ booking site.
Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
Mileage
The tickets are issued in booking class I. Due to the long travel distance, you can earn a decent amount of miles. This example covers a basic itinerary booked through BA:
- 26,766 Points on Finnair Plus
- 23,580 Miles on Royal Air Maroc Safar Flyer
- 23,580 AsiaMiles + 250 Club Points on Asia Miles
- 23,580 Avios + 168 Qpoints on Qatar Privilege Club
- 23,580 Miles on Royal Jordanian Royal Club
- 23,580 Miles on SriLankan FlySmiLes
- 22,302 Miles on Alaska Mileage Plan
- 22,302 Miles on Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
- 19,118 Points + 34 Elite Points on Malaysia Airlines Enrich
- 19,106 Avios + 350 Tier Credits on Aer Lingus AerClub
- 15,920 Award Miles on LATAM Pass
- 7,660 Award Miles on Etihad Guest
- 6,382 Miles on GOL Aéreos Smiles
- 6,268 Miles on American AAdvantage
- 5,616 Avios + 936 Tier Points on The British Airways Club
- 5,616 Avios + 2,122 Elite Points on Iberia Plus 2025

Information & Tips for USA
The United States offers a wide range of tourist sights, from national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and card payments are widely accepted. Prices vary by region but can be high in major cities, especially for accommodation and dining. Weather differs greatly across the country—winters can be harsh in the north, while the south often stays mild; summers are generally hot and humid in many areas.
The U.S. transport infrastructure is highly car-dependent, especially outside major cities. Urban centres like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco have functional public transit, but many other cities have limited options. Between cities, domestic flights are common for long distances, while intercity buses and Amtrak trains cover some routes, though often with slower speeds and less frequency compared to other countries. Without a car, getting around can be inconvenient in many parts of the country.

what are people looking in at in terms of accomodation? Im looking at nightly room prices in Hawaii that would make Norwegians blush!
If you’re looking for a cheap option, some hostels offer private bedrooms for a relatively cheap price. Here’s an example (private room at the Polynesian Hostel Beach Club Waikiki for €87, sadly with shared bathroom): https://prf.hn/click/camref:1101lKhC/%5Bp_id:1100l43426%5D/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hostelworld.com%2Fs%3Ffrom%3D2022-12-12%26to%3D2022-12-20%26guests%3D2%26HostelNumber%3D3264%26Type%3D1%26aff2%3DDE_x_desktop%26utm_medium%3Dmetasearch%26utm_source%3Dgooglehotelfinder%26utm_content%3Dhpa_12_12_2022_8_localuniversal_3264_DE_desktop_selected_16523155646__2%26utm_campaign%3DDE%26lead_time%3D167%26campaign_id%3D16523155646%26hpa_click_type%3Droom%26hpa_date_search_type%3Dselected%26hpa_site_property%3Dlocaluniversal%26hpa_occupancy%3D2%26hpa_d_tax%3D126.24%26hpa_d_total%3D828.75%26hpa_rateplan_id%3D139047%257C2%26hpa_u_country%3DDE%26hpa_u_currency%3DEUR%26hpa_u_lang%3Den%26hpa_u_list_id%3D%26hpa_room_id%3D168603%26hpa_pos%3Den%26source%3Dgooglehotelads_x_desktop_x_16523155646%26gclid%3DCj0KCQjw8O-VBhCpARIsACMvVLM3xXGkJ-a0kZpstz_UMMTiJqMa8coLNdP6RaLLdN_z-ZTqArlVD8waAoD5EALw_wcB%26q%3DHonolulu%2C%2520USA%26country%3DUSA%26city%3DHonolulu%26type%3Dcity%26id%3D4409%26page%3D1
Thanks Felix for the Heads Up, as they say.
I have booked the flights and they all show up under my British Airways Executive Club page now.
All seats are free to chose from Budapest to Honolulu too ( American Airways with BA Code share numbers.
Total cost in November for 9 nights was 1317000 HUF for two, with Business Class on every flight (First from LAX to Honolulu).
Not bad price for all the flights and I will get 33,000 Avios also and Silver tier for sure 👍👍👍
Definitely looking at booking, but can not find any flights via Dallas in Oct/Nov/Dec 2022.
Has anyone had any luck finding a flight via DFW?
Want the lay flat seat after that long journey.
Thanks
Hi Simon!
The clue is that you have to spend one night in Dallas between your flights to get the lie-flat connection. You can use these parameters in the ITA Matrix (https://oldmatrix.itasoftware.com/) to make it work: https://travel-dealz.de/app/uploads/sites/2/grafik-2295.png .
Thanks Felix.
Will try and hopefully see what I can find.
Once again, much appreciated 👍
After finding a connection in the ITA Matrix, you can use Google Flights to book it. Here’s an example:

Various Star Alliance members team up to bring you discounted business class flights from Amsterdam to Hawaii, starting at a €1,870 roundtrip fare from Paris to Honululu.
Ja was denn nun – ab Paris oder Amsterdam?
Hi Wigand!
Von Amsterdam natürlich. Habe den Fehler korrigiert, Danke für den Hinweis!
