Oneworld airlines American Airlines and British Airways offer flights from Amsterdam to New York at a price of €334. Prices don’t include checked luggage, they cost an additional €120.
You have to be fully vaccinated for at least 14 days to enter the United States, with an approved vaccine, unless you are a US resident/citizen. You can read more about the entry requirements at the CDC.
Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to British Airways with your preselected flight dates. You can also check what OTAs have to offer, although they only sell these tickets for around €20 cheaper.
The cheapest itineraries include a flight through London Gatwick airport. The connection is rather short, only 1:05 on the way there. However, you should still choose that option over an airport change to Heathrow. Most flights include a Boeing 777, either from British Airways or American Airlines.
Search & Book
The sale is on until September 30, 2022 and you’d need to reserve 28 days before flying. You can fly from September to May with possible holiday itineraries. You can fly from Mondays through Thursdays on the way there and you can fly back from Tuesdays to Thursdays. Availability looks very good, with a little break in late October.
You can browse flight dates on either Google Flights or on our availability calendar above, then book on British Airways’ website. Alternatively, you could book the flights through online travel agencies (OTAs) using our flight search tool, although the ~€20 price difference may not equal out the lost benefits.
Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
Mileage
British Airways issues the long-haul flights in booking class O, while the short-haul tickets in booking class S. The trip connecting in both Gatwick and Heathrow would get you the following mileage:
