Hawaii: €1,974 Oneworld Business Class from Scandinavia

Finnair Business Class HEL JFK Sitz ohne Weitwinkel

It seems like the days of super-cheap Hawaii Business Class tickets are over. After our last deal of €1,600 in July expired, we had to lower our expectations. Accordingly, Oneworld airlines, Finnair, British Airways, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines now offer Hawaii flights from Stockholm, Göteborg and Oslo starting at €1,978 – or even less if you are willing to spend an overnight layover in Dallas and return to Oslo (in exchange for a lie-flat seat to Hawaii). You will fly on Finnair, British Airways, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

You can fly to the following islands from Stockholm:

it is also possible to depart from Oslo for similar prices. For example to Honolulu at €2,013 (~NOK 23,620) booked via Expedia or only a bit more booked on the airline’s website.

Open-jaw and double-open-jaw itineraries are also available. This is advantageous if you want to visit multiple islands. For example, you can travel to Honolulu from Stockholm on the way there and back to Göteborg from Kona for SEK 22,199 (~€2,007). Or fly lie-flat all the way from Stockholm on the way there and to Oslo on the way back at just SEK 21,408 (~€1,936).

Before you start looking for a date, we recommend you take a look at the Search & Book section. Once you’ve done that, you can use the form below to search Google Flights (and then on to AA) or the ITA Matrix. Availability is from June to December 2023, departing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays and returning from Monday to Wednesday.

Routings & Products

Feeder flights are operated by Finnair or British Airways, rarely also by Iberia. With Finnair, it should be noted that the next seat in the Embraer regional jets is not kept free.

The long-haul flight is then with British Airways, American or Finnair, depending on the connection. On some routes (e.g. from London to Los Angeles or Dallas), British Airways has scheduled the new Business Class Club Suite, which is a significant improvement over the old product. These connections would therefore be preferable, but there is always the possibility of an aircraft change.

You can’t go wrong with American’s and Finnair’s Business Class either. With Finnair, however, you should bear in mind that the new Business Class seats do not have a lounge position. You can only use them completely flat or upright, but not reclined. Travel-Dealz editor, Peer was not particularly convinced by this new seat, as you can read in the review. Other passengers, however, seem to be happy with the new seat, so maybe you should try it out for yourself.

Flights from the US West Coast to Hawaii are usually on board a Domestic First Class of American or Alaska. These are wide recliner seats, but unfortunately, they do not have a lie-flat function. For 2 six-hour flights, this is not particularly comfortable. Fortunately, there are a few exceptions like the lie-flat options via Dallas.

Search & Book

Here is an overview of the fare rules:

  • Expiration date: Unknown
  • Minimum Stay: A Saturday night
  • Maximum Stay: None
  • Stopovers: Not allowed in North America

While there is no official expiration date, historically these fares expire quickly. While you can’t have stopovers longer than 24 hours, you can do mini-stopovers (instructions).

You can easily find suitable dates with the help of Google Flights (instructions). From there, you can be redirected to booking directly with American Airlines with just a few clicks.

However, the results on Google Flights are not always complete. If you can’t find what you’re looking for on Google, we recommend using the ITA Matrix. There you can set any filters in the routing codes, e.g. regarding the maximum (or minimum) travel time. Once you’ve found the connection you want, use the Powertools to book directly on AA.com. The Dallas – Hawaii Flight in a Lie-Flat Business Class

American operates the routes from Dallas to Hawaii with a real Business Class. This is primarily because the routes are too long for the typical narrow-body jets. As a passenger, you benefit from much greater comfort and a lie-flat reclining function.

There are daily direct flights from Dallas to Honolulu (Oahu) and also Kahului (Maui). The in-flight product on these flights looks something like this:

American Airlines Business Class Mittelsitze
American Airlines Business Class

To benefit from the better product, unfortunately, you’d need to spend a night in Dallas, at least on the way there. However, even if you travel lie-flat all the way, an overnight hotel is not so bad compared to 24 hours long continuous travel.

The best way to find connections is via the ITA Matrix (instructions), for example with the following parameters:

To book directly from the Matrix, we recommend the browser extension ITA Matrix Powertools. Alternatively, you can also put the whole thing together as a multi-stop trip on Google Flights. Google will then send you to AA.com for booking. It will look something like this:

Mileage

As there are plenty of opportunities, it’s hard to determine how many miles will you accrue. American Airlines issues tickets in booking class I. If you book the itinerary in our deal button, you will earn the following mileage:

  • 22,220 Avios + 163 Qpoints on Qatar Privilege Club

You can calculate your mileage earnings below. For Oneworld airlines, you should write which airline’s flight number is on your ticket, not necessarily the one that operates the leg.

As usual, BA’s Executive Club is really attractive. You can collect 640 Tier Points with the above routing. This is enough for at least one year’s Oneworld Sapphire status, provided you fly a total of four flights with BA or Iberia.

Up to 1,080 Tier Points with One Trip

The Executive Club credit becomes even more attractive if you also include a stop in London and New York. Then up to 1,080 Tier Points are possible with just one trip to Hawaii.

Here is one such example, which can be booked directly with American Airlines for €2,1541:

Hotel prices in Hawaii usually start at roughly €100, depending on the hotel category. Whichever category and hotel you opt for, make sure to get the best price! Our recommendation is to search on booking.com, or even on our own Travel-Dealz hotel search:

Information & Tips for USA

The United States offers a wide range of tourist sights, from national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and card payments are widely accepted. Prices vary by region but can be high in major cities, especially for accommodation and dining. Weather differs greatly across the country—winters can be harsh in the north, while the south often stays mild; summers are generally hot and humid in many areas.

The U.S. transport infrastructure is highly car-dependent, especially outside major cities. Urban centres like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco have functional public transit, but many other cities have limited options. Between cities, domestic flights are common for long distances, while intercity buses and Amtrak trains cover some routes, though often with slower speeds and less frequency compared to other countries. Without a car, getting around can be inconvenient in many parts of the country.

Dear Peter this is amazing, but I would like to use the BA Double Tier Points deal. Do you have any routings that get you atleast 1000 tp before doubling ?

    • Peer says:

I don’t think that you can combine this with the double TP offer. First of all, you’d need to depart from the UK for this one. Next, you can’t properly book multi-stop trips as far as I am informed.

  2. Peter Falk says:

Thanks a lot I now manage to do the search but the price goes up quite a bit by routing through Helsinki so will leave it at 920 TP via JFK and LAX

  3. Peter Falk says:

Hi, How do I do the search for other dates on the 1080 TP routing, I tried over and over on ITA Matrix but I do not manage to figure it out, I am not able to get searches that includes stop in Helsinki from Sweden, I only get stops in London, new York and Los Angeles which gives 920 TP the Helsinki leg adds another 160 TP

    • Peer says:

      Hey Peter,

it’s a bit tricky. There are two ways (Google Flights + ITA Matrix) to find these optimized routings. A combination of best is probably most successful:

      1) Look for the best routing for ARN – HNL on Google Flights.
      2) try to seperate the outbound flight into as many segments as possible, leaving the inbound (HNL-ARN) flight untouched
      3) Once you’ve found a routing via step 2, reset ARN – HEL to one segment only and try to seperate HNL – ARN via multi-stop search: e.g. HEL-NYC, NYC-LHR, LHR-ARN
      4) Save all the flights you found and combine them in the ITA matrix. Afterwards, book in the powertools

This is what my final ITA matrix request looked like, after searching around in Google Flights:

Maybe this article will help finding such a routing:
