The Executive Club, British Airways‘ frequent flyer program, is currently offering double Avios for flights departing from the UK to the US. This promotion is valid for flights booked by August 16, 2024 and flown by June 25, 2025. You must register through the following link before booking:

It’s important to note that this offer is only applicable to flights operated by BA with a BA flight number (compared to previous instances, when a BA flight number was enough). British Airways transitioned to spending-based mileage accrual in 2023, which means you now earn only 6 to 9 Avios per GBP of the ticket price, resulting in up to 90% fewer Avios compared to the previous system.
While the doubling of Avios may not fully compensate for the reduction, it’s still better than nothing. Passengers travelling in business class will earn roughly the same number of miles as before with this doubling.
Search & Book
You can find the complete terms and conditions for this offer on the British Airways website. Here are the key points:
- Booking period: July 5 to August 16, 2024
- Travel period: July 5, 2024 to June 25, 2025
- Valid only after registration through the offer page
- Not applicable to existing bookings made before registration
- Valid for the first ten segments (flight date is the determining factor)
- Double Avios are earned on the flight fare (including the fuel surcharge, excluding taxes and fees) as well as costs for seats and additional baggage
- Valid only for the following flights:
- Flights with a BA flight number and operated by BA
- Flights originating in the UK and return or open-jaw return flights in the same itinerary.
- Also valid on holiday (flight + hotel, flight + car or flight + hotel + car) bookings where you would get two bonus Avios instead of one per GBP spent on the package in addition to the base earnings
At the moment, we don’t have a specific deal from the UK to the US, however, you can find premium economy fares from London to New York at £752 (~€862) or even first class flights from Glasgow to Washington D.C. at £2,632 (~€3,015). In the latter example, Finnair Plus would credit you 20,105 Avios and Tier Points, while BA would give you 2,327 x 6 x 2 =27,924
Avios (assuming you don’t have status) and 500 Tier Points. In this example, your earnings exceed the Avios you would have got before the change.
Conclusion
Even with this promotion, there are only a few examples where you will get more Avios compared to the previous distance-based system. However, it’s still worth taking advantage of the offer: earning around 12 Avios per GBP is better than the 6 Avios per GBP ticket price that the new spending-based system offers.
