Oneworld stalwart British Airways revamped its loyally program with an axe, several litres of petrol and match at the end of 2024. The result is that many members plan to leave the program by April 2026. British Airways Executive Club status holders can still make the most of their status: Air France and KLM’s joint frequent flyer program is currently offering a paid status match for residents of the United Kingdom. A fee of £99 (~€114) is necessary to get your status matched.
To secure this status match, you’ll need a corresponding status level. For instance, Silver at the Executive Club can be matched to Silver or Gold at Flying Blue, while the Gold status is being rewarded with Silver, Gold or Platinum, depending on your choice.
The process typically takes three business days to be approved. Once approved, you will have the status with Flying Blue in your account within about five business days, and it will be active for twelve months. During this time, you will need to follow the guidelines of the points program to maintain your status with the airline.
To initiate the status match, you will need to pay an application fee, the price of which depends on the status you wish to apply for.
- £99 for Flying Blue Silver (= SkyTeam Elite)
- £99 for Flying Blue Gold (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
- £99 for Flying Blue Platinum (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
You can only apply for this match if you hold residency or citizenship in the United Kingdom.
Status matches to Flying Blue are also available for Spanish Iberia Plus members, as well as Miles&More tier holders from many European countries.
Instructions
Go to flyingblue.statusmatch.com/ba and enter your name, e-mail address and Flying Blue membership number. If you don’t have a Flying Blue account, you need to sign up for the program first.
If the data matches your account and your country of residency is eligible for the match, you can select the status you want to match. There is a drop-down menu that you can choose from. If your status is not part of that list, Flying Blue won’t match it.
The next step requires you to upload photographic proof of your current status. A photo of a physical card or a screenshot showing your name, number and status will do the trick.
The following and last step is the payment page. Flying Blue displays which status you’ll achieve with the match and presents you the bill. You can pay by all common credit cards.

My experience found them to be a bit of a joke.
Applied earlier last week for BA Silver to FB Gold, (UK resident)
result was ‘Declined – BA status match cannot be used for another status match.’
the (soon to expire) BA status was gain by flying, (although there was a double tier point promo.)
(But I have never done status match, ever.)
Emailed to ask for explain and they took forever to reply (while another issue was replied within an hour.)
And I am still waiting for an actual after they ask for more information.
(Also we have a VS upper class flight booked n flying)
at least they refunded quickly.
in the step where I’m required to upload the screenshot, when I hit next I keep getting a message saying I’ve been blocked. Tried of mobile, desktop, with and without VPN.
Anyone else having the same issue?
Yes, you will have to send them a email, ask them for a new link.
Also they requested me to do a face scan later, not just an upload of id photo,
but a “live” one where they take photo of the id in the webpage,
and ask to do a face scan, as oppose to a photo of the person.
(So find somewhere with good stable connection)
