SkyTeam partners KLM and Air France are currently selling premium economy tickets from Oslo to Johannesburg for as little as €762. Sadly, however, this is a light fare, that doesn’t include luggage. If you want the standard fare with 2x 23 kg of luggage, the price increases by €150, which is still a very good price for premium economy flights to South Africa.
If you’re living in Southern Europe, flying from Madrid for €969 could also be an interesting option. By the way, if you have a SkyTeam frequent flyer status, one piece of luggage is included, even in the light fare.
Most Europeans do not need a visa to travel to South Africa, as long as they stay for less than 90 days.
You can get these tickets directly on KLM’s website. The availability is quite good throughout the year. Feel free to use our search form to try out some dates. You can either be redirected to KLM’s website in Euros or Norwegian Kroner, whichever suits you best.

Both airlines use a Boeing 777 for their flights to Johannesburg. The flight takes about 10 hours. Personally, if you have the choice, we’d recommend flying with KLM, as their premium economy is better than Air France’s in our eyes.
KLM has recently added a small premium economy cabin to most of its Boeing long-haul planes. The seats are among the best on the market, the service is good, and you also get SkyPriority services at the airport.
Air France has two different types of premium economy seats. The seats in their Boeing planes do not recline in the conventional sense but instead slide forward. This can be a bonus, especially on a day-flight since you’re not disturbed by the person sitting in front of you. Tall passengers, however, have difficulties sleeping, as “reclining” leads to very limited leg room. Furthermore, the service and catering are often disappointing.

Search & Book
According to the fare rules, this deal expires on July 29, 2024. Furthermore, there’s a minimum stay requirement of 4 days and a maximum of 3 months. While the tickets are non-refundable, they can be rebooked for a fee of €250 + the price difference.
Sadly, Google Flights displays incorrect prices. Your best option is to use the best price calendar on KLM’s website. For that, simply enter the route without entering a date and click on search flights.

You’ll find available dates spread out over the entire year.

Information & Tips for South Africa
South Africa offers a diverse range of attractions, from the iconic Table Mountain and Robben Island in Cape Town to the wildlife-rich Kruger National Park and the scenic Garden Route. The local currency is the South African rand (ZAR), and while credit cards are widely accepted, cash is still commonly used, especially in smaller towns. The cost of travel is generally affordable, with budget-friendly options available for accommodation, food, and activities. The weather varies by region: the coastal areas have mild, Mediterranean-like climates, while the inland areas can be hot and dry in summer and cooler in winter.
South Africa’s transport infrastructure is mixed in quality and convenience. Within cities, public transport is limited, with minibus taxis being common but often confusing for visitors; private cars or ride-hailing apps like Uber are more reliable. Between cities, domestic flights are the fastest option due to long distances, while intercity buses offer affordable travel, though journeys can be long. Trains exist, but are generally slow and not widely used for tourism.
