Oneworld member American Airlines currently offers a promotion for its loyalty program AAdvantage. Members can currently earn 500 loyalty points for flights in March 2025, up to a maximum of 5,000 loyalty points. These come on top of your regular earnings.
However, there are some huge drawbacks to this promotion:
- Only flights booked after registration count towards the promotion. Previously existing booking don’t receive extra points.
- The cheapest Basic Economy fare is excluded from the promotion.
- The flights in question must be marketed and operated by American Airlines.
You have to register first and then book flights by March 10, 2025 for the promotion to get the points:
Bottom Line
While this promotion is a nice way to earn extra loyalty points, it is no incentive to book American Airlines flights just to get the points. For context, Oneworld Sapphire status (that comes with free checked bags and lounge access for two people across the alliance) requires earning 75,000 loyalty points within a year – and booking tickets mere weeks in advance is usually pretty expensive. But if you want to fly in March anyway, why not register and take the extra points?
