Last week, we reported that Aegean Airlines was running a great sale from and to Greece, which expires today. But you can also take advantage of this sale to fly to Cairo at very cheap prices. Of course, the flights will be routed via Greece, and often you’ll have quite a long layover, but before this sale runs out at midnight, it may be worth taking a look.
The cheapest fare includes 8 kg of hand luggage. Booking the fare that includes checked luggage costs roughly €25 more per direction. Star Alliance Gold members always get to bring 1 piece for free.
You can depart from the following cities
- Athens: €104 (non-stop)
- Milan: €158

Aegean uses Airbus A321 or A320 aircraft for all flights. The flights between Athens and Cairo take a bit under 2 hours.
Most Europeans need a visa to enter Egypt, but for citizens of the EU, the process is straightforward: they can obtain a visa on arrival at Egyptian airports or apply in advance for an e-visa online. The standard tourist visa is usually valid for 30 days and costs around US$25 (~€21) for a single entry. A few exceptions exist, such as citizens of some Balkan or Eastern European countries who may have different requirements, but for the majority of European travellers, entry is simple and does not require securing a visa through an embassy beforehand.

Information & Tips for Cairo
Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital, is best known for the nearby Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, as well as the Egyptian Museum, which houses a vast collection of ancient artifacts. The local currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP), and while Cairo is generally affordable, prices can vary widely—meals and transport are cheap, but some tourist sites and hotels can be pricey. Summers are extremely hot and dry, often exceeding 35°C (95°F), while winters are milder and more comfortable for sightseeing.
