Every now and then, we set out to find the cheapest ways to fly around the world. This time, we’ve come up with three options. Depending on the route, you’ll be able to visit places such as Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Japan, and Indonesia for around €1,000. And for those looking to get to all continents in one go, we’ve also included a 6-continent routing for around €1,400.
Our example routings are:
- Option 1 – Eastbound for €924 (€1,081 with Luggage):
- Athens – Singapore – Ho Chi Minh City – Brisbane – 28 hours in Fiji – Los Angeles – Barcelona
- Option 2: Westbound for €934 (€1,202 with Luggage):
- Barcelona – Boston – Los Angeles – Honolulu – Tokyo – 18 hours in Singapore – Jakarta – Athens
- Option 3: Six Continents for €1,384 (€1,642 with Luggage):
- Madrid – Cairo – Athens – Bali – Sydney – Fiji – Los Angeles – Bogotá – Miami – Lisbon – Valencia
Option 1: Eastbound for €924, incl. Australia (€1,081 with Luggage)
Our first option has you flying eastbound, visiting Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, and the USA. You’ll also get to spend a day in Fiji. A positive aspect of this routing is that luggage surcharges are quite low throughout the trip, meaning that bringing 20 kg of checked luggage on your trip only increases the price by €157.
Here’s the detailed itinerary:
Athens to Singapore for €180 with Scoot (€239 with 20 kg Luggage)
We start our round-the-world trip in the Greek capital, Athens. Scoot is currently selling its non-stop flights to Singapore for only €180. The cheapest fare includes 10 kg of cabin baggage. The Value fare that also includes seat selection and 20 kg of checked luggage adds almost €60 to the price.

Availability calendar
Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City for €59 with VietJet (€67 with 20 kg of Luggage)
Flights from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam are usually quite cheap, but VietJet’s pricing stands out because of the ridiculously low surcharges for its Deluxe fare, which includes 20 kg of luggage. While the eco fare costs US$70 (~€60), including only 7 kg of carry-on baggage, the Deluxe fare, including checked luggage and more flexibility, only costs US$79 (~€67). Needless to say, we recommend booking the Deluxe fare.

Availability calendar
Ho Chi Minh City to Brisbane for €100 with VietJet (€112 with 40 kg of Luggage)
Now it’s time to head to Australia. Vietjet’s flights to Brisbane start at only ₫3,082,000 (~€99), including only 7 kg of carry-on baggage. Again, booking the Deluxe fare definitely makes sense, as for only ₫3,482,000 (~€112), you get 10 kg of carry-on baggage, 40 kg of checked baggage, food & drinks, and more flexibility.

Availability calendar
Brisbane to Los Angeles for €352 with Fiji Airways, with 30 kg of Luggage (28 hours in Fiji)
Now it’s time to cross the Pacific. Fiji Airways is an interesting option for this, for two reasons. First, the Oneworld airline lets you bring 30 kg of luggage, and also offers free food and drinks on its flights. But another major upside is that you can spend a day in Fiji for free. In this case, you’d land in Nadi at 17:10, and then fly onwards to Los Angeles at 21:40 on the next day, giving you over 28 hours to explore the island. You can also stay for various days, but that would then increase the price by a bit (roughly €100, depending on the specific dates).

Los Angeles to Barcelona for €234 with Level (€311 with 23 kg of Luggage)
Time to fly back to Europe. The cheapest option from the US West Coast is flying to Barcelona with Level for €234. Level often has sales, where these flights are even cheaper. It may be worth waiting for these prices to drop, but if you don’t want to risk being stuck in the US, the price of €234 is quite acceptable. The Comfort fare that includes 23 kg of checked luggage and food costs €311.

Summary with Example Dates
Here’s the whole trip summed up, including example dates:
Example Date | From | To | Airline | Price | Price with Luggage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
March 6, 2026 | Athens | Singapore | Scoot | €180 | €239 |
March 11, 2026 | Singapore | Ho Chi Minh City | VietJet | €59 | €67 |
March 21, 2026 | Ho Chi Minh City | Brisbane | VietJet | €99 | €112 |
March 29, 2026 | Brisbane | Nadi | Fiji Airways | €352 | €352 |
March 30, 2026 | Nadi | Los Angeles | Fiji Airways | – | – |
April 9, 2026 | Los Angeles | Barcelona | Level | €234 | €311 |
Total: | €924 | €1,081 |
This trip starts in Athens and ends in Barcelona. We assume that most of our readers will have to add feeder flights to the starting/end points anyway. If, however, you actually live in Barcelona or Athens, the flight connecting both cities starts at €45 with Vueling (or €89 if you add 25 kg of luggage).
Option 2: Westbound for €934, incl. Hawaii (€1,202 with Luggage)
Our second option has you flying westbound and has a few more stops. However, it does not get you to Australia, and luggage surcharges are higher. Nevertheless, the routing is attractive, getting you to Boston, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Tokyo, and Jakarta, including mini-stopovers in Seoul and Singapore.
Here’s the detailed itinerary:
Barcelona to Boston for €155 with Level (€215 with 23 kg of Luggage)
Level is always a great option to cross the Atlantic Ocean. In this example, we’ll take advantage of their cheap flights to Boston, which only cost €155. The cheapest fare only includes 10 kg of luggage. The Comfort fare, including 23 kg of checked luggage and food, costs €215.

Availability calendar
Boston – Los Angeles – Honolulu for €235 with Any Airline (~€300 with 23 kg of Luggage)
From Boston, we’re heading to beautiful Hawaii. However, we’re going to add a stop of multiple days in Los Angeles on the way, as this only increases the flight price by around €6. Almost every major American airline offers these flights at exactly the same price: Oneworld member American Airlines, Star Alliance member United, and SkyTeam member Delta have the exact same price. If you hold a status with one of these alliances, then you should fly with that airline, as then your luggage will be included. Otherwise, American Airlines and United charge US$80 (~€68) for checked luggage, while Delta charges US$70 (~€60). United is the worst option for non-frequent flyers, as they don’t even include a carry-on in their cheapest fare.

Honolulu to Tokyo for €194 with Asiana, with 2x 23 kg of Luggage (22 hours in Seoul)
From Hawaii, we continue our journey to Japan’s capital, Tokyo. For this, we’ll choose Korean airline Asiana, with its generous baggage allowance. Here, you have two options: You can either continue to Tokyo after a short layover in Seoul, or extend that layover to 22 hours, giving you some time to explore the South Korean capital on the way.

Tokyo to Jakarta for €130, with 18 hours in Singapore (€191 with 20 kg of Luggage)
A real round-the-world trip has to cross the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Equator. While we’ve already completed the first two requirements, it’s now time to take care of the last one. Singapore’s low-cost carrier Scoot will fly you from Tokyo to Jakarta for JP¥22,539 (~€130). The Value fare, including 20 kg of luggage and seat selection, costs JP¥33,049 (~€190). The cheapest tickets also tend to come with an 18-hour layover in Singapore, which you can use to explore the Lion City.

Availability calendar
Jakarta to Athens for €222 with Scoot (€303 with 20 kg of Luggage)
We’ll also be relying on Scoot to get back to Europe, booking their flight to Athens for IDR 4,278,784 (~€219). If you want to bring more than 10 kg of cabin baggage, you’ll need to book the Value fare, including an additional 20 kg of checked luggage and seat selection, for IDR 5,851,534 (~€299). The cheapest option again has you spending 14 hours in Singapore, but having a short layover instead only costs around €6 more, so it’s completely up to you if you want to spend another day in Singapore or prefer to get back to Europe as quickly as possible.

This trip starts in Barcelona and ends in Athens. We assume that most of our readers will have to add feeder flights to the starting/end points anyway. If, however, you actually live in Barcelona or Athens, the flight connecting both cities starts at only €38 with Vueling (€77 with 25 kg of luggage).
Option 3: Six Continents for €1,384 (€1,642 with Luggage)
Our third example routing is quite a bit more expensive, but it is aimed at those who want to visit all continents (except Antarctica) in one single trip. There are actually some slightly cheaper options, but they either have a lot in common with “Option 1” or are limited to very few possible dates. We therefore chose this routing, as it gets you to other places, such as Bali. But always keep in mind that you can usually twist and turn quite a few of these segments and fly to other cities at similar prices.
Here’s the detailed itinerary:
Madrid to Cairo for €104 with Iberia Express (€150 with 23 kg of Luggage)
First, we’ll check Africa off our list. For this, we’ll book Iberia’s flight from Madrid to Cairo for €104. The cheapest fare only includes 10 kg of hand baggage, but you can book the Optimal fare for €150, including 23 kg of hold luggage and free seat selection at check-in.

Availability calendar
Cairo to Athens for €71 with Aegean (€114 with 23 kg of Luggage)
From Cairo, we fly to Athens with Aegean Airlines, the Greek airline. With 8 kg of cabin baggage, you’d pay €71. With checked baggage (up to 23 kg), the prices start at €114. You’ll also be served a light meal on the 2-hour flight, regardless of the booked fare.

Availability calendar
Athens to Bali for €223 with Scoot (€312 with 20 kg of Luggage)
From Athens, you’ll take a Scoot flight to Singapore, just like in our first example routing. However, this time, you’ll directly fly onwards to Bali, paying €223 for the entire ticket. The cheapest Basic fare only includes 10 kg of luggage. The Value fare, with 20 kg of checked baggage and seat selection, costs €312.

Availability calendar
Bali to Sydney for €118 with Jetstar (€152 with 20 kg of Luggage)
It’s now time to head to Australia. Jetstar will be operating the flight to Sydney. The cheapest fare costs IDR 2,267,117 (~€116) and only includes 7 kg of carry-on luggage. The Starter Plus fare includes 20 kg of checked baggage, seat selection, as well as food and drinks – for a grand total of IDR 2,937,117 (~€150).

Availability calendar
Sydney – Fiji – Los Angeles for €396 with Fiji Airways, incl. 30 kg of Luggage
This part is similar to the Fiji Airways flights to Los Angeles presented in the first routing, though this time, we’re not going to limit ourselves to 28 hours but actually enjoy a couple of days in Fiji, paying US$468 (~€399) for the entire ticket. That slightly increases the price, and you’re obviously welcome to pay €75 less and stick to the 28-hour stop. But this article is also about showing the various options, so this time we’ve gone for the extended stay. Either way, 30 kg of luggage is always included.

Los Angeles to Bogotá for €127 with Viva (€169 with 20 kg of Luggage)
It’s time to visit the last continent on our list. For that, we’re going to board a Viva plane and fly to Guadalajara, spend a day (i.e. from 5 AM until 6 PM) there, and then fly on to Bogotá in South America. Viva is probably the worst airline mentioned in this article and doesn’t even include a carry-on in its cheapest fare. If, however, you spend US$200 (~€170) instead of US$150 (~€128), you’ll get to bring a 20 kg piece of luggage. For frequent flyers, however, flying with Copa, Delta, or American Airlines might be a more attractive option, as status holders can check in luggage for free, and their tickets cost around €170.

Bogotá – Lisbon – Valencia for €343 with Avianca & TAP, with 23 kg of Luggage
Now it’s time to fly back home. For that, we’re going to book a ticket on TAP Portugal’s website. The Star Alliance member’s partner Avianca will fly us to Miami, and from there, TAP will get us to Lisbon. There, we can add a stopover of up to 5 days, before we fly back to the country where we started this whole trip. In this case, we chose the cheapest option, Valencia. But you can also fly to other cities in Europe for slightly more. Another positive aspect of this ticket: 23 kg of luggage is included.

Summary with Example Dates
Here’s the whole trip summed up, including example dates:
Example Date | From | To | Airline | Price | Price with Luggage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
February 28, 2026 | Madrid | Cairo | Iberia Express | €104 | €150 |
March 4, 2026 | Cairo | Athens | Aegean | €71 | €114 |
March 9, 2026 | Athens | Bali | Scoot | €223 | €312 |
March 17, 2026 | Bali | Sydney | Jetstar | €118 | €152 |
March 20, 2026 | Sydney | Nadi | Fiji Airways | €396 | €396 |
March 25, 2026 | Nadi | Los Angeles | Fiji Airways | – | – |
April 6, 2026 | Los Angeles | Bogotá | Viva | €127 | €169 |
April 9, 2026 | Bogotá | Lisbon | Avianca & TAP | €349 | €349 |
April 13 | Lisbon | Valencia | TAP | – | – |
Total: | €1,384 | €1,642 |
Conclusion
There are quite a few different options to fly around the world, but you’ll usually end up paying around €1,000 for the entire trip. Luckily, the luggage surcharges are not as terrible as one might expect, as Asian airlines mostly kept their surcharges low.
Flying to all six continents, however, increases the price quite a bit, and it’s debatable if paying ~€300 more to see Cairo and Bogotá is worth it, or if that money would be better spent by seeing a couple of more cities in Asia or America. In the end, we can only provide inspiration; now it is up to you to see where your heart (and budget) takes you.
