The Lufthansa Group wants to encourage its status customers to pay for CO₂ compensation for their flights. For this reason, Miles&More status points have been awarded for a few days now when booking such compensation packages. The credit can be applied retroactively for all flights from 2025 as well as for future flights.
This option can be very appealing if you’re missing a few points toward FTL, Senator, or even HON Circle status at the end of the year. Depending on the flight route, prices start at roughly €1 per (Qualifying) Point. That’s cheaper than almost any status run—and far more eco-friendly and time-saving than a mileage run to the Middle East.
According to reports on Vielfliegertreff, there are still numerous inconsistencies with the crediting:
- Some users report that award miles were deducted from their Miles&More account even though they paid the compensation in euros. This apparently happens whenever the mileage credit for the selected flight was based on booking class + distance. It is then “corrected” to a revenue-based calculation.
- The website promises points for award flights, but in practice, no points are credited after payment.
- Contrary to what’s displayed, Qualifying Points for CO₂ compensation are only granted if the flight itself is QP-eligible. That means only flights operated by the Lufthansa Group, as well as Croatia Airlines, ITA, Luxair & LOT, but not all other Star Alliance members.
You may want to take a screenshot as proof of the promised credit. But in general, don’t rely on the website’s information. Instead, assume that the compensation will yield at most 80% of the (original) Points & Qualifying Points, and none for award flights.
How it works
You can book compensation packages retroactively for flights you’ve already taken in 2025. If you’re booking a new flight on, for example, Lufthansa.com, you can also add the package during booking. The exact process differs slightly.
Compensating past flights
You can compensate flights either in the Miles&More app or on the Miles&More or Lufthansa website. Numerous instructions can be found there. Otherwise, use the link provided and click on “Offset flights”:
There, you can select either all flights or individual flights for compensation:

We often encountered the error message “Oops! Something went wrong” in the next step. If this happens to you, try the following:
- Manually log out of the Miles&More or Lufthansa website
- Start a new login attempt on the current page
- If an error appears, restart the compensation process via this link
Afterwards, you can choose between different packages. For status points, the Large or X-Large bundle is usually the most attractive:

Compensating during a flight booking
If booking a new flight, it’s important not to select the Green fare. Instead, first choose the desired flight and enter your personal details. Only then will you see the selection of compensation packages relevant here.
The screen will show options such as 5%, 45% or 80% of the Points. You’ll need to calculate the exact figures yourself.

We assume that the credit of additional points in this case will only occur shortly after the flight date, together with the flight’s own crediting.
Sample prices
Apparently, the shorter the flight, the more attractive the price per status point. Below are three examples with price per Qualifying Point:
- Swiss Business Class Oslo – Zurich (one-way, retroactive):
- Small: 2 Points + 2 QP + 2 HON Points for €7.72 (€3.86 / QP)
- Medium: 8 Points + 8 QP + 8 HON Points for €16.56 (€2.07 / QP)
- Large: 20 Points + 20 QP + 8 HON Points for €34.23 (€1.71 / QP)
- X-Large: 32 Points + 32 QP + 8 HON Points for €51.90 (€1.62 / QP)
- Eurowings Economy Berlin – Gothenburg (one-way, retroactive):
- Small: 1 Point + 1 QP for €3.29 (€3.29 / QP)
- Medium: 6 Points + 6 QP for €9.56 (€1.59 / QP)
- Large: 16 Points + 16 QP for €22.11 (€1.38 / QP)
- Lufthansa Business Class Düsseldorf – Frankfurt (round-trip, during booking):
- Small: 4 Points + 4 QP + 4 HON Points for €5.29 (€1.32 / QP)
- Medium: 36 Points + 36 QP + 16 HON Points for €21.46 (€0.60 / QP)
- Large: 64 Points + 64 QP + 16 HON Points for €35.60 (€0.56 / QP)
In addition to the status points, each compensation package also earns extra award miles: 4 miles per euro for everyone, or 6 miles per euro with Executive Bonus.

will those points earned by compensation counted for lifetime sen?
They should be, if they are qualifying points.
