Ferry company DFDS Seaways runs a bunch of ferries through the Channel, offering classic routes like Dover-Calais and longer trips from Newcastle to Ijmuiden near Amsterdam. For the latter, the company offers so-called Mini Cruises, that include two overnight ferry crossings in a sleeper cabin, and transport between the port and the destination city on the day between the sailings. Prices start at £52 per person from Newcastle or €51 per person when starting your journey in Amsterdam. These fares are for an inside cabin with double occupancy – no meals are included in this price.

These prices are available until October 27, 2025, for travel in October and November 2025.

If you book the Newcastle – Amsterdam – Newcastle mini cruise, this is the route with all inclusions:

  • Day 1:
    • Overnight crossing from Newcastle to Ijmuiden (Amsterdam)
  • Day 2:
    • Transport from Ijmuiden to Amsterdam City Center by bus
    • Transport from Amsterdam City Center to Ijmuiden by bus
    • Overnight crossing from Ijmuijden (Amsterdam) to Newcastle
  • Day 3:
    • Arrival in Newcastle

The price includes the transfer to/from Amsterdam city centre. It is obligatory to book that trip. The plan for Amsterdam – Newcastle – Amsterdam is similar, only that the transport from/to Newcastle is included in the price.

Two ships are used on the route: the King Seaways and the Princess Seaways. Both ships were built in the late 1980s, but they are regularly refurbished. The last major renovation of both ships took place in 2024. On board, there are several restaurants, shops, bars, cafés, two cinemas, a casino, and entertainment options for children
