Swiss business

Avianca’s frequent flyer program, LifeMiles, offers a very interesting opportunity to fly in the Star Alliance‘s premium cabins for cheap prices. To do this, you don’t need to collect miles, you can just buy them. Currently, LifeMiles is selling its award miles with a 160% bonus.

Buying Miles With up to 160% Bonus

Until December 3, 2025, there will be a bonus of 160%, as long as you purchase at least 21,000 miles (i.e. 54,600 miles, including the bonus). Otherwise, you’d only get a 140% bonus. You can buy the miles here:

For this promotion, a maximum limit of 520,000 miles (incl. bonus) has been set. Therefore, you can buy up to 200,000 miles + 160% bonus. The bonus makes the price drop to USD12,70 per 1,000 miles, or 1,27 USD-cents/mile.

Redemptions

Unlike many other frequent flyer programs, LifeMiles doesn’t pass on fuel surcharges. This makes flights with e.g. Lufthansa or Swiss attractive, where surcharges of several hundred euros per direction would otherwise be charged.

Here are a few examples of what award flights currently cost, after the devaluation in spring 2025. In parentheses, you’ll find the effective prices if you previously purchased the miles for 1.08 euro cents. All prices are one-way:

Dieses Lifemiles Programm ist inzwischen so ein Schmarrn wie alle anderen Programme auch. Aber mit dem Bonus evtl die “beste” Möglichkeit um den Meilenverfall um zwölf Monate rauszuschieben.
