Where the Empire State Building proudly stands today, there used to be a hotel that opened roughly 130 years ago. This hotel was the original Waldorf Astoria – and was demolished in 1929 to make way for the iconic skyscraper. It then moved to 301 Park Avenue, and Conrad Hilton acquired its management rights – and later bought the entire hotel. Fast forward to 2006: Hilton decides to create a luxury brand, named after this iconic hotel. And so, in the past 20 years, almost 40 of these Waldorf Astorias have popped up around the world, with around 15 more set to open in the next 3 years.
But enough with the history lesson. The question that we set out to answer is: Where are the cheapest Waldorf Astoria hotels located? Well, here’s our answer:
- Waldorf Astoria Chengdu, China, starting at CN¥1,316 (~€158)
- Waldorf Astoria Panama, Panama, starting at US$198 (~€169)
- Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, Qatar, starting at QAR 801 (~€188)
- Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre, U.A.E., starting at AED 816 (~€190)

We do not claim that these prices are available year-round. Also, we may have missed a hotel, as we couldn’t check every date at every hotel. But the list should roughly be correct. If not, let us know in the comments.

Here’s a map with all the mentioned hotels:
By the way, many of these hotels can also be booked through ASMALLWORLD, where – for a slightly higher price – you’d also get breakfast, an upgrade, double Hilton Honors points, and US$100 (~€85) to spend at the hotel.
Conclusion
First of all, good luck finding a cheap Waldorf Astoria in the southern hemisphere. That being said, the destinations on this list are surprisingly attractive. While the Middle East is only cheap during the (incredibly hot) summer, being able to stay in such a luxury hotel in cities such as New Orleans, Bangkok, or Berlin for less than €300 is not bad.
