China Southern is launching a new route to Madrid in December, and this opens an opportunity for cheap flights to China during the first two months of the route. While the flight from Madrid connects the Spanish capital with their hub in Guangzhou, the cheapest prices can be achieved by adding a connecting flight to Shanghai, making prices for a round-trip drop to only €309, including 23 kg of checked luggage.

Our calendar displays the cheapest dates in green. You can either be redirected to Skyscanner or pay ~€20 more on China Southern’s website:

You can fly both to Shanghai Pudong airport, as well as to Shanghai Hongqiao. Either way, you’ll be flying from Madrid to Guangzhou first, onboard a Boeing 787 with a 3-3-3 economy class configuration. The flight takes a bit under 13 hours. After a short layover in Guangzhou, you’ll then continue to Shanghai, usually with an Airbus A320 family plane. That flight takes roughly 2 hours.

Visa Info

Until December 2025, citizens of 33 countries in Europe may enter China for 30 days without applying for a visa. It is currently unclear if this policy will be continued in 2026.
