Editor’s Note: If you’re looking for a looooong cruise, this one is a great option. The ship is quite cool, the route is very interesting, and the cost of the flights to Hamburg and from Dubai is quite low. And if it’s too long, the option to only book a segment of this route is also appealing. The biggest downside for many is probably the main onboard language: German. Route

The journey begins conveniently in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, allowing for easy travel to the port. After navigating the Elbe River and reaching the North Sea, the ship first heads to Southampton on the southern coast of England, the most important cruise port in the UK. From there, it continues to Gijón and La Coruña in northern Spain. In Portugal, stops are planned in Leixões (near Porto) and the capital, Lisbon, before the AIDAprima leaves the European mainland and sets course for Madeira.

Before heading towards Africa, you will visit three Canary Islands: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria. The islands boast a pleasant climate even in autumn, making them ideal for shore excursions. In Gran Canaria, a walk through the historic old town of Las Palmas is highly recommended, where you can find landmarks such as the Cathedral of Santa Ana. Alternatively, you can opt for a relaxing day at the beach, for instance, at Playa de las Canteras.

On its way south, the AIDAprima then makes a stop in Cape Verde, where you can explore the island of Sao Tiago and its capital, Praia. This is followed by seven days at sea, during which you will cross the equator. The ship will then reach Walvis Bay in Namibia for an overnight stay. The next major stop is Cape Town. The Ship

The AIDAprima was completed in 2016 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki. It is 300 meters long and 38 meters wide. The ship reaches a maximum speed of 21.5 knots and has capacity for up to 4,350 passengers (approx. 3,300 with double occupancy) and over 900 crew members.

Onboard, you will find a variety of leisure, sports, and wellness facilities. There are 18 bars located in the lounges and on the open decks. The main pool area consists of two connected pools (one indoor, one outdoor), supplemented by pools at the end of the water slides, two small infinity pools, and a Lazy River for relaxed floating. A wide range of cultural and recreational activities are available, including a spa, casino, climbing garden, a LEGO world, and a cinema. The wellness area, which requires an additional fee, spans an impressive 3,100 square meters.

The AIDAprima features a total of 12 restaurants, including Asian and Italian options. While meals and some beverages are included in the buffet restaurants, the specialty restaurants offer complimentary food but charge for drinks. Other dining venues are available for a full surcharge.

The onboard language is German, and the currency is the Euro.

Getting Back from Dubai

For your return flight from Dubai in December 2026, you should plan for a one-way flight, with an estimated cost of around €150 (plus fees for checked baggage).

Star Alliance members Turkish Airlines and Air New Zealand are currently offering a deal for business class flights to Auckland, New Zealand, starting at just €2,613 (~NOK 30,919) from Oslo. Apart from a change of planes in Istanbul, you have to stay roughly 22 hours in Bali on the outbound flight, which is not necessarily a downside.

The feeder flights to and from Istanbul are operated on Turkish Airlines’s narrowbody fleet, with recliners in a 2-2 pattern in economy class. Between Istanbul and Bali, you are scheduled to fly on a Boeing 787-9, featuring Turkish Airlines’ newer business class seats (Review). After reaching Bali, you have to spend at least 22 hours on the island.

Editor’s Note: This is a fascinating fare, mainly because Bali usually is not used as a transition point for flights like these. The price is decent, too. The 22-hour layover is great to get a taste of the island, even if it doesn’t allow for trips to places like Ubud. I recommend being decisive on this one, as it will be gone sooner rather than later.

Nevertheless, Accor has been expanding its 5-star portfolio in recent years, with brands such as Raffles and Fairmont. However, they have already been running the Sofitel hotels for a long time, which they took over in 1975. From their over 75 Sofitels, we have found the 30 cheapest.

However, we omitted the Sofitels in China as they would have inflated this list unnecessarily without really being interesting. Instead, we listed the 5 cheapest Sofitels of China separately. Also, we do not claim that these hotels consistently charge the listed price on every date. Furthermore, there may be another hotel that we missed, as it may have been more expensive on each of the dates checked. Last but not least, be aware that the lowest price is usually found in the off-season. Air France is currently selling premium economy tickets to Hong Kong at a cheaper price than usual if you depart from Sofia. For these flights, Air France uses its A350, with the newer premium economy seats. There’s good availability until June. The Light fare only includes 2 carry-ons and a personal item. The fare that includes 2 pieces of checked luggage costs €160 more.

Our calendar displays all the cheapest dates. It can redirect you to KLM’s website. KLM’s website is exactly the same as Air France’s (they are basically the same airline), only that we get a commission from KLM while we don’t get one from Air France.

Air France does not seem to fly to Sofia. Therefore, your trip from Sofia to Air France’s hub in Paris involves two flights, either via Belgrade with Air Serbia or via Bucharest with TAROM. On the way back, you can fly directly from Paris to Sofia with Bulgaria Air.

The long-haul flight is operated with an Air France A350. This is good news, as the A350s have the newer and better premium economy seats.

Air France has two different types of premium economy seats. The seats in their Boeing planes do not recline in the conventional sense but instead slide forward. This can be a bonus, especially on a day-flight since you’re not disturbed by the person sitting in front of you. Tall passengers, however, have difficulties sleeping, as “reclining” leads to very limited leg room. The seats in Airbus A350 planes are better and are closer to the competition. Air France’s premium economy, however, has a major downside that has nothing to do with the seats: The cheapest fare includes 0 checked luggage to most destinations! Furthermore, the service and catering are often disappointing.

The Ship

The MSC Preziosa (Fantasia class) was built at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard, entered service in 2013, and was renovated in 2016. It is 38 meters wide, and 333 meters long, has 18 decks, and accommodates nearly 3,500 passengers and 1,400 crew members.

It has 2 main restaurants and a buffet restaurant. The “Galaxy” restaurant, which has interesting Asian fusion cuisine, is highly recommended as a speciality restaurant for an additional charge. Here you can not only enjoy fantastic views of the ship and surroundings but also good food. There are also 12 bars or lounges where you can enjoy beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks.

In addition to the spa and fitness area as well as various cultural and leisure activities, there is also a 120-meter-long waterslide.

A casino, cinema, basketball court, tennis court, outdoor jogging track, bowling alley, and four pools (one covered) offer a variety of recreational activities.

The onboard language is English, and the currency on the ship is the euro. Originally, the ship was ordered by the Libyan government but was later sold to MSC.

The cabins are at least 16 square meters in size and are equipped with a safe, air conditioning, telephone, television, and minibar.

Oneworld carriers British Airways and American Airlines team up to bring you a great fare from Oslo to Buenos Aires. Your first flight always takes you from Oslo to London in British Airways Business Class. Then, the good stuff begins. You will board an American Airlines Boeing 777 to either New York or Miami. After a short wait, you will continue your way to Argentina. All segments in question are operated with American Airlines’ Flagship First cabin.

American Airlines First Class

At American Airlines, there is only a real first class named Flagship First in the Boeing 777-300. The alignment is like in business class (1-2-1) and otherwise, the seat is (unfortunately) more reminiscent of a good business class, but at least it is a lot more spacious. The swivel function of the seat is quite unique so that you can look straight ahead through the window during the flight.

You can do that by using either Google’s re-direct or entering flight dates on their website. This might take some time, as you American does not preview First Class pricing. You need to choose premium fares first, then see if the cheap first class tickets are available.

Editor’s Note: We usually publish deals with Oneworld in first class from Europe to the USA for around €3,000. However, in this case, for about €1,000 more, you get an additional 22 hours of first class all the way to Argentina. Editor’s Note: Excellent value, especially considering the price of the balcony cabin. If you live in Southern California, I think this cruise is a great option for taking a workcation, allowing you to work remotely from the sea while enjoying Mexico without having to take planes or drive.

The Route

The cruise starts in Long Beach on the US West Coast. The port is located just south of Los Angeles, making it easily accessible via LAX or Long Beach Airport.

The ship heads south towards Mexico, with a relaxing day at sea to enjoy the Italian-themed amenities. The highlight of the trip is a double visit to Cabo San Lucas. Here, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Gulf of California, you will enjoy two consecutive days (with a brief departure overnight) to explore the famous “El Arco” rock formation or enjoy the beaches.

After another day at sea, the journey continues to the port city of Ensenada. Founded by Spanish missionaries in the 17th century, it is now particularly known for its diverse shopping opportunities and local wineries.

The Ship

The Carnival Firenze joined the fleet in 2024, bringing “Carnival Fun Italian Style” to the US West Coast. Originally launched as the Costa Firenze in 2020, the ship was transferred from Costa Cruises and completely refurbished. It accommodates over 4,000 passengers and offers an immersive Italian-themed experience, with public spaces and venues inspired by the city of Florence.

Onboard, you’ll find a mix of Carnival fan-favourites and new, Italy-inspired options. Dining choices include the Palazzo and Medici main dining rooms, the Lido Marketplace buffet, and speciality restaurants like the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, as well as more casual spots like Guy’s Burger Joint and the Pizzeria del Capitano. Entertainment is plentiful, featuring Playlist Productions shows in the Teatro Rosso, live music at the various bars and lounges, a casino, and the WaterWorks aqua park.

One-way flights from the USA to Europe are currently particularly cheap to book with Oneworld (American or British Airways) and SkyTeam (Delta, Air France, KLM). Since 2023, the private operator European Sleeper has been running a night train service from Berlin to Amsterdam & Brussels. This connection has since been extended eastward to Dresden and Prague.

Currently, tickets in the couchette car are being offered at particularly low prices. A trip from Prague or Berlin to Brussels, Amsterdam, or Rotterdam, or vice versa, is available for €25 each way. These cheap tickets are available for travel between January 5 and February 12, 2026, booked by January 4, 2026.

The fares include the train ticket, compartment reservation for up to five people, bed linen, and luggage. Mineral water is also included. Additional drinks and snacks can be purchased for a fee.

Alternatively, you have the option of booking your own compartment for €100. The price is the same regardless of whether the compartment is used by one or five people. Route

The Brussels – Amsterdam – Berlin – Prague route is served three times a week. The train stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam, and The Hague, among other places. In Germany, it only stops in Berlin Hbf, Berlin Ostbahnhof, Dresden Hbf, and Bad Schandau before continuing to Decin and Prague. The journey from Berlin to Brussels takes approximately 10 hours.

Comfort & Travel Classes

European Sleeper offers a total of three travel classes:

In the seated car, there are a total of 6 seats. Unfortunately, the seats cannot be pushed together to form a flat surface, as it is possible in older ÖBB Nightjet compartments.

In the couchette car, depending on the chosen category, there are either 6 or (for an additional charge) 5 berths, whereby everything can be folded up during the day to create seating areas. Women’s compartments are also available. European Sleeper provides bedding, but you have to make the beds yourself.

In the sleeping car, there is space for a maximum of 3 people. By default, there is only a sink. A welcome drink and breakfast set this travel class apart from the couchette car. The beds are already made, and you benefit from a wake-up service. Women’s compartments are also available here.

Norse uses a Boeing 787 for its long-haul flights from London Gatwick to Cape Town. The seats are roughly as comfortable as on most other major airlines crossing the Atlantic. The Hotel

The Abu Dhabi EDITION hotel, located in the downtown district on the waterfront of Al Bateen Marina, offers a range of luxurious amenities. The property features 198 unique rooms and suites. Guests can enjoy dining at three restaurants: Oak Room, Alba Terrace, and Market at EDITION – along with a lobby bar and a pool bar. To give you an example, the US$100 (~€85) credit buys you two Spatchcock Charred Chickens in the Oak Room restaurant, along with two non-alcoholic cocktails. The hotel provides two outdoor pools, a spa, and two fitness centres.

Previous guests have left very good reviews (e.g. 9.3/10 on Booking.com or 4.6/5 on Google), with the hotel’s good location getting the most praise. While it seems a little remote on the map, there are lots of restaurants and a supermarket within 500 meters walking distance. And as one of our readers has commented, you’ll also find “two of Abu Dhabi’s best speciality coffee shops” less than a 3-minute walk away.

An Uber from Abu Dhabi airport to the hotel will cost around AED 140 (~€32) and take approximately 35 minutes.

Price Check

On the exact same dates at which Classictravel is charging €190 for a rate with breakfast and hotel credit, Marriott’s website wants €314/night for that same room, without the hotel credit. Even if you were to not use the hotel credit, you’d still be saving around 40% by booking through Classictravel! Also, booking through Classictravel literally has no disadvantages.

Etihad Airways currently sells discounted roundtrips from many European airports to the Seychelles. While the gulf carrier’s cheapest economy fare no longer includes checked bags, the price-tag for hold luggage is below €40.

Why it stands out: It has been a while since we saw a decent offer to the Seychelles in economy class. Not only is this a fairly good price for an exotic destination, but it is broadly available from many European airports and also comes with a long travel period, with cheap tickets available until October 2026.

€1,700 ITA Airways Business Class to Brazil from Spain

With departure from Madrid and Barcelona, you can reach São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro for less than €2,000 in ITA’s business class.

Why it stands out: While ITA Airways issues promo codes regularly, these are almost always limited to departures from Italy. This fare allows people to travel from Spain, for prices that are usually only available with aforementioned discount codes. While the routing via Rome is a detour, that’s not necessarily a downside when booking premium tickets.

€3,200 British Airways First Class to San Francisco

In addition to the first class sales from Stockholm and Lisbon, British Airways also offers discounted first class tickets from Dublin. From Ireland, even flights to the American West Coast are discounted, with roundtrips to San Francisco available for less than €3,300.

Why it stands out: If you break it down to money per hour spent in a first class cabin, the roundtrip tickets from Dublin to San Francisco and back are some of the best value first class currently available with Oneworld carriers.

You will be seated in economy class during the feeder flights to one of the Lufthansa group hubs Munich, Vienna or Zurich. Both Swiss and Austrian deploy a Boeing 777 on flights between their hubs and Bangkok, while Lufthansa operates their Airbus A380. All these routes use a 2-4-2 seating pattern in premium economy, compared to the 3-4-3 in economy class.

Editor’s Note: Not only is Thailand a beautiful country worth visiting, Bangkok is a perfect gateway for trips to other Asian countries. If you have the choice, I suggest choosing SWISS’ inbound flight, as it is a daytime trip. This makes premium economy seating less tedious than Austrian’s or Lufthansa’s long westbound red-eyes.

The Verandah King Room measures 50m² and features a bathtub in addition to the private balcony or terrace. As this is an adult-only hotel, there are no accommodations for child beds. The Hotel

The Reef House Adults retreat is a 5-star adults-only (16+) resort just across the street from the beach of Palm Cove, Queensland, Australia. You can get to the hotel from Cairns Airport in approximately 30 minutes by car. The area has many restaurants in different price ranges, and there are several activities.

Previous guests gave good ratings: the property sports a 4.4 rating on Google and a 4.7 rating on TripAdvisor. The hotel gets primarily positive reviews in every category. However, the rooms only get a 4.4 on TripAdvisor, and 19% of those mentioning “room(s)” on Google had a negative review. You should check the pictures of the rooms and decide whether it’s up to your expectations.

Editor’s Note: This is a good deal for people looking for high-end relaxation without having to deal with children during their trip to Australia. LuxuryEscapes beats the price by 30+% with good availability in the months they consider Summer Down Under. The dining credit of 100 dollarydoos each day is a nice touch, but I’d probably use it for lunch and explore nearby dining options for dinner.
