Finnair Plus: Double Avios & Tier Points for Newly Booked Finnair Flights Until August 2026

Finnair A319

Finnair Plus is offering double Avios and Tier Points for (almost) all Finnair flights booked until August 28 (Finnish time, 22:59 GMT). The travel period is much longer, covering flights through August 2026.

Since the program changes in March 2024, Finnair Plus now uses a revenue-based system. Even with double points, the deal isn’t especially rewarding. Normally, about €6,800 in Finnair ticket spend is needed to reach Gold status (= Oneworld Sapphire). With this promotion, only half is required. But since taxes and fees don’t count, you’d still need around €4,000 in base fares – provided all tickets are booked within the promotion period.

The full terms and conditions can be found on the following page (scroll down quite far):

With this offer, you’ll earn:

  • Without status: 12 Tier Points and Avios per € ticket price
  • Finnair Plus Silver: 14 Tier Points and Avios per € ticket price
  • Finnair Plus Gold: 16 Tier Points and Avios per € ticket price
  • Finnair Plus Platinum: 18 Tier Points and Avios per € ticket price
  • Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo: 20 Tier Points and Avios per € ticket price

Your status on the date of travel is what counts. “Ticket price” refers only to the base fare plus fuel surcharges. Taxes and other fees do not earn points.

Offer Terms

These are the most important conditions:

  • Booking period: August 19 – August 28, 2025 (Helsinki local time)
  • Travel period: August 19, 2025 – August 23, 2026
  • Valid only for bookings made directly with Finnair during the booking period – not via third parties or other airlines
  • No double points for existing bookings
  • Offer remains valid if rebooked, as long as new travel dates fall within the promo period
  • Applies to one-way and round-trip flights in all classes of service
  • Valid only for flights operated by Finnair or Norra, and only on the following flight numbers:
    • AY 1 – AY 2000
    • AY 7001 – AY 7500
    • AY 9601/ AY 9602 / AAY 9605 / AY 9606 (bus routes)
  • Extra services such as baggage also earn double points

Double Points – But Still Not Always Attractive

While the promotion isn’t entirely unattractive, it’s not necessarily worthwhile. If you have a choice among different Oneworld carriers, competitors may be a better option.

For example, flights from Berlin to New York for €359:

Of that, €166 is the base fare and €193 are “real” taxes & fees. With Finnair Plus, you’d earn approximately:

  • Without status: 1,992 996 Tier Points & Avios
  • With Gold status: 2,656 1,328 Tier Points & Avios
  • With Platinum Lumo: 3,320 1,660 Tier Points & Avios

Alternatively, you could fly the same route with American & British Airways (via London) for the same fare. Without any doubling, you’d earn:

  • Without status: 2,316 Tier Points & Avios
  • With Gold status: 2,664 Tier Points & Avios
  • With Platinum Lumo: 2,894 Tier Points & Avios

That’s already roughly the same as Finnair’s doubled amounts. The same applies if Finnair flights are booked as Oneworld codeshares.

It may also be worthwhile to credit flights to another Oneworld frequent flyer program if you’re not tied to Finnair. For example, 3,000 miles with Alaska Mileage Plan can be a much more attractive alternative.

Mileage credits at other Oneworld programs
  • 4,802 Points + 16 Elite Points on Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • 3,054 Miles on Alaska Mileage Plan
  • 2,402 Avios + 30 Qpoints on Qatar Privilege Club
  • 2,402 Miles on American AAdvantage
  • 2,402 Miles on Royal Air Maroc Safar Flyer
  • 2,402 Miles on SriLankan FlySmiLes
  • 2,402 Miles on Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
  • 2,402 Avios + 384 Tier Points on The British Airways Club
  • 2,402 Avios + 550 Elite Points on Iberia Plus 2025

Conclusion

Three years ago, Finnair Plus ran a promotion with triple status and award points. That was a no-brainer: for example, you could book two long-haul flights for €1,100 and receive 150,000 points (= 100,000 Avios) plus Oneworld Emerald status on top. Under today’s doubling offer, the same flights would only yield around 12,000 Avios – not even enough for Silver status.

For those still loyal to Finnair Plus despite the changes, this promo may be worth considering for a few tickets with halfway decent returns. For everyone else, skipping it won’t mean missing much.
