The Intercontinental is without a doubt the best hotel in Ljubljana – after all, it is also the only 5-star hotel in the Slovenian capital. But the hotel also does well in an international comparison: It only opened in 2017, making it one of the brand’s newest hotels. The design is convincing and the rooms are very spacious: Even the smallest category is 39 square meters big.
Booking through Virtuoso is particularly interesting. Even without a status at IHG, you can enjoy various valuable benefits there. Each booking includes US$100 (~€85) credit for e.g. the restaurant and breakfast for two. Often you can get a stay with all these advantages for less than €200 per night.
You will also receive points as an IHG Rewards member and your status benefits. All bookings can be canceled free of charge up to 4 p.m. on the day of arrival. So you are not taking any chances.

When booking, make sure to select a Virtuoso rate. These are marked gold:

You will receive the following benefits when booking through Virtuoso:
- Free breakfast (buffet + à la carte) for 2 people per room
- Credit of US$100 (~€85) for the restaurant or bar
- Room upgrade based on availability
Please note that you will only receive the credit once per stay. Breakfast, however, is granted every day and for two persons. The offer is particularly attractive for short stays, but of course, it is also worthwhile for longer trips.
The Hotel
The Intercontinental Ljubljana is one of only two IHG hotels in Slovenia (alongside the recently opened Holiday Inn Express in Ljubljana). It is the only 5-star hotel in Ljubljana to date. From the restaurant and bar on the roof terrace on the 20th floor, you can enjoy a great view of the city and the surrounding area.
On the 18th floor, there is a sauna, a gym, and a pool from which you can also enjoy the view. The hotel only opened in 2017 and has a great, luxurious atmosphere. On Google, users give an average of 4.6/5 stars, on Tripadvisor 4.5/5. Multiple members of our team have stayed at the hotel and were pleased by both room, staff and location.
The hotel is a little north of the city center, but only a 10-minute walk from the old town. The city center of Ljubljana is very beautiful but compact. You can explore the city on foot without any problems, even from the hotel.
It takes only 5 minutes from the Intercontinental to the train station – from there, you have direct connections to e.g. Vienna and Salzburg and even a night train to Zurich. A nice alternative to arriving by car or plane. Ljubljana’s airport is located roughly 30 km outside the site. Buses from the nearby train station run every fifteen to thirty minutes.

Unfortunately, the hotel itself only offers a valet parking service for a hefty €33 per night. There is a parking garage directly opposite, which “only” charges around €20 per day.
Parking is free of charge from 22:00 to 7:00 directly on the street in front of the hotel. After that, €0.80 per hour is due, but unfortunately, a maximum of 2 hours at a time is possible. A good alternative for short stays.

Price Comparison
For the price comparison, we selected a night from December 8 to 9, 2024. On these dates, the cheapest room for two people via Classictravel costs €220 including taxes.

Booking directly with IHG, the refundable rate including breakfast is €20 more expensive – and you won’t receive the $100 food and beverage credit on top.
