First, you will take a feeder flight to Zurich, Munich, or Frankfurt in economy class, and then continue on your long-haul flight in premium economy. If you fly with SWISS, the route to Johannesburg is operated by Airbus A340 aircraft with a 2-4-2 configuration in premium economy. All seats are equipped with a video screen as well as 110V and USB power outlets. You can also fly on Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8 (2-4-2) via Frankfurt or their Airbus A350 (2-3-2, our recommendation) via Munich.
Lufthansa offers a very good seat that’s available on long-haul flights from and to Frankfurt and Munich. The rest of the experience, however, is nothing special. At the airport you enjoy 0 (zero!) benefits as a premium economy passenger, and the food onboard is not exactly great either. At least you get to bring 2 x 23 kg of luggage.

Most Europeans do not need a visa to enter South Africa, as long as their stay does not exceed 90 days. You merely need a passport with 2 empty pages, and a ticket to leave South Africa.
Search & Book
We can’t tell you how long this deal will be around, but it requires a minimum stay of five days or a Saturday overnight stay and a maximum stay of twelve months. Departures are scattered between November 2025 and July 2026, with most of the departures occurring between November 2025 and March 2026.
You can find your preferred travel dates with our calendar shown at the beginning of the deal. Alternatively, you might also use Google Flights (instructions). The cheapest tickets are available on Skycanner. You can then proceed to book the flights on Lufthansa.com, which itself also has a best-price calendar.

Information & Tips for Johannesburg
Johannesburg is known for its role in South Africa’s history, with key sights like the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, and Soweto’s Vilakazi Street. The local currency is the South African rand (ZAR), and most places accept cards, though cash can be useful in smaller shops and markets. Prices are generally affordable compared to global standards. The city has a mild, high-altitude climate—summers (October to March) are warm with afternoon thunderstorms, while winters are dry and sunny with cool nights.
