Itinerary (Example for Departure on December 1)
The cruise begins in San Francisco on the US West Coast. At the start of the trip, you can enjoy four relaxing days at sea aboard the Ruby Princess before the ship reaches Hawaii. A total of four stops are on the itinerary: Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hilo. In each port, you can either join an organized shore excursion or explore the cities and islands on your own.
Afterward, the ship heads back out to sea for another five days on the Pacific Ocean. Your final port of call will be Ensenada, Mexico. The 16-night voyage concludes back in San Francisco.

Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$21 (~€19) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.
There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.
The Ship
The Ruby Princess, launched in 2008, is one of Princess Cruises’ larger Grand-class ships, carrying just over 3,000 passengers. While not among the newest in the fleet, it has been regularly updated to keep pace with changing expectations, balancing modern amenities with the line’s more traditional style of cruising.
The heart of the ship is the Piazza, a central atrium designed as a gathering place with cafés, bars, and live entertainment. Around the ship are multiple pools and whirlpools, a spa and fitness centre, and a variety of lounges and performance spaces, including the main theatre for production shows and a cinema under the stars on the pool deck.

Dining includes main dining rooms with set or flexible seating, casual buffet and poolside options, and a handful of speciality restaurants, such as a steakhouse and Italian venue. Bars and lounges range from relaxed spots for a quiet drink to livelier spaces with live music.
Cabins come in a range from inside staterooms to suites, with many balcony cabins available. The atmosphere on board tends to be more laid-back than high-energy, appealing to passengers who prefer a classic cruise environment with a mix of relaxation, entertainment, and traditional service rather than constant activity.
