Itinerary (example for departure on November 15, 2025)

Your cruise begins in San Francisco on the U.S. West Coast. To start, you can look forward to three relaxing sea days aboard the Ruby Princess. This is the perfect opportunity to get to know the various attractions on board and enjoy the culinary offerings in the restaurants. The first stop is Manzanillo, which boasts many beaches such as Playa Miramar, lined with palm trees. Also worth seeing is the wreck of the San Luciano, best explored on a snorkeling excursion.

The voyage then continues to Puerto Vallarta, a port city on the Mexican Riviera offering many water sports activities. An excursion to the Marietas Islands, ideally as part of an organized boat tour, is also worthwhile. After that, the ship sails on to Mazatlán, where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez meet.

The last stop is Cabo San Lucas. This region has some of Mexico’s most stunning beaches, which can be enjoyed thanks to more than 300 days of sunshine each year. For active vacationers, a hike up Mount Solmar is highly recommended to take in the breathtaking views. The cruise ends after 11 nights back in San Francisco.

Visa Info

Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$21 (~€19) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.

There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.

The Ship

The Ruby Princess, launched in 2008, is one of Princess Cruises’ larger Grand-class ships, carrying just over 3,000 passengers. While not among the newest in the fleet, it has been regularly updated to keep pace with changing expectations, balancing modern amenities with the line’s more traditional style of cruising.

The heart of the ship is the Piazza, a central atrium designed as a gathering place with cafés, bars, and live entertainment. Around the ship are multiple pools and whirlpools, a spa and fitness centre, and a variety of lounges and performance spaces, including the main theatre for production shows and a cinema under the stars on the pool deck.

Dining includes main dining rooms with set or flexible seating, casual buffet and poolside options, and a handful of speciality restaurants, such as a steakhouse and Italian venue. Bars and lounges range from relaxed spots for a quiet drink to livelier spaces with live music.

Cabins come in a range from inside staterooms to suites, with many balcony cabins available. The atmosphere on board tends to be more laid-back than high-energy, appealing to passengers who prefer a classic cruise environment with a mix of relaxation, entertainment, and traditional service rather than constant activity.
