Open Jaw Flights Europe → East Asia | USA → Europe with SAS from €347 (Hand Luggage Only)

Airbus A350 SAS

SkyTeam member SAS is currently offering open jaw tickets that allow you to combine a one-way flight from Europe to Asia with a return flight from North America. Departing from Spain, prices start at €347, for example, from Gran Canaria to Seoul with a return flight from New York to Gran Canaria.

The cheapest fare only includes 8 kg of cabin baggage and a personal item. SkyTeam frequent flyers are allowed to check at least one bag of up to 23 kg. For everyone else, it gets more complicated: not all connections can be booked directly with SAS — and even when they can, only the Eco Light fare is available for the return flight. Therefore, the most sensible way to add a 23 kg bag is either directly when booking through a third-party provider or by adding it later with SAS (€75 to €100 per leg).

Here are some sample prices for cheap connections:

  • Gran Canaria – Seoul | New York – Gran Canaria from €347
  • Mallorca – Seoul | Los Angeles – Copenhagen from €353
  • Malaga – Seoul | San Francisco – Copenhagen from €355
  • Barcelona – Tokyo | Boston – Copenhagen from €3761
  • Vienna – Tokyo | San Francisco – Copenhagen from €420
  • Amsterdam – Seoul | San Francisco – Paris from €464
  • Amsterdam – Seoul | San Francisco – Amsterdam from €485
  • Dublin – Seoul | San Francisco – Dublin from €407
  • Madrid – Tokyo | Los Angeles – Madrid from €5371
  • Frankfurt – Seoul | Los Angeles – Frankfurt from €517
  • London – Tokyo | Los Angeles – London from €622 (~£543)

1 – with an overnight stay in Copenhagen / Stockholm on the outbound flight

Hint

You can also book mixed cabin classes with SAS. For instance, with the outbound flight in Premium Economy from €729 or the outbound flight in Business Class from €1,059. These sample prices are for HAM - ICN | SFO - HAM, with the return flight in Economy.

However, booking directly with SAS only works if the first and last airports are the same.

We found availability from November 2025 to May 2026 (it’s about €80 more expensive in June). To book via Skyscanner or directly with SAS (where possible), feel free to use the following booking form:

Almost all flights include a layover in Copenhagen; some have a second stop in Stockholm. From Copenhagen to Asia, an Airbus A350 with 79 cm of seat pitch (in a 3-3-3 configuration) is used.

The return flight from the USA to Copenhagen is operated on an Airbus A330, Airbus A350, or Airbus A321LR. These aircraft also offer an average seat pitch of 79 cm.

Visa Info

Most European passport holders can stay in Japan max. 90-day stay, no visa required

Most European passport holders can stay in South Korea max. 90-day stay. Visa-free until the end of 2025, after which a K-ETA for approx. €6 is required

Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$21 (~€19) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.

There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.

The fares will likely be available until August 25, 2025. The travel period is from November 2025 to May 2026. You can also fly back in June, but it will be about €80 more expensive.

Google Flights displays the prices quite reliably, but its price calendar does not work for multi-stop flights.

We recommend booking directly with SAS whenever possible. However, you cannot book double open-jaw flights (i.e., A → B | C → D) there. It only works if airports A and D are the same. Therefore, for these cases, you will have to resort to third-party providers on Skyscanner,

How Do I Cross the Pacific?

To make use of this fare, you will, of course, need a cheap flight across the Pacific. Fortunately, there are several options for this.

  • Economy Class:
    • Seoul → Vancouver with Air Canada from €246 (incl. luggage)
    • Tokyo → Vancouver with Zipair from €249 (€330 with luggage & catering)
    • Tokyo → Portland with Air Canada from €266 (€327 with luggage)
  • Premium Economy:
