SkyTeam member SAS Scandinavian Airlines is currently running a large scale sale from European airport to American destinations, with many connections available for less than €400. The cheapest tickets are available from Brussels to New York, pricing out at €341. A change of planes in Copenhagen, Stockholm or Oslo is necessary to get the best price.
The quoted prices refer to the Go Light fare, that merely includes a cabin bag, but no hold luggage. The cheapest option to add a checked bag is choosing the Go Standard fare in SAS’ website, that is usually €80 more expensive than the cheapest ticket.
You can reach New York from the following European airports:
- Brussels at €340
- Milan at €344
- Tallinn at €351
- Vilnius at €360
- Zurich at €372 (~CHF 347)

SAS uses three different plane types on flights across the Atlantic. You will find yourself either in an Airbus A321LR with 3-3 seating, an Airbus A330 with 2-4-2 seating pattern or a 3-3-3 Airbus A350, which mostly operate out of Copenhagen. All seats feature personal entertainment systems and power outlets.
Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$21 (~€19) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.
There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.

According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale without a travel or sales period. You need to stay at least six days or a weekend at your destination to get the best price. Departures are available in October and November 2025, as well as in early 2026.
Google Flights helps you find additional flight dates. While you may score cheaper tickets with OTAs, on the majority of the dates, SAS sells the best tickets on its website. It is also the best place to book if you want to add checked bags to your booking.

Information & Tips for USA
The United States offers a wide range of tourist sights, from national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and card payments are widely accepted. Prices vary by region but can be high in major cities, especially for accommodation and dining. Weather differs greatly across the country—winters can be harsh in the north, while the south often stays mild; summers are generally hot and humid in many areas.
The U.S. transport infrastructure is highly car-dependent, especially outside major cities. Urban centres like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco have functional public transit, but many other cities have limited options. Between cities, domestic flights are common for long distances, while intercity buses and Amtrak trains cover some routes, though often with slower speeds and less frequency compared to other countries. Without a car, getting around can be inconvenient in many parts of the country.
