Turkish Airlines is currently selling cheap flights to Melbourne. Prices start as low as €703 from the Baltics and Prague and are only slightly more expensive from London. You’d fly to Kuala Lumpur with Turkish Airlines and then continue your trip to Melbourne onboard a Malaysia Airlines flight. If you want, you can even add a stopover in Kuala Lumpur in one direction. Furthermore, the ticket also includes 30 kg of luggage. The availability is best in November 2024 and March 2025.
You can depart from the following cities:
- Riga: €703
- Prague: €704 (~CZK 17,120)
- Vilnius: €716
- London: €723 (~£631)
We’ve marked available dates in green for all 4 routes in our calendar below. Once you’ve selected your preferred point of departure and dates, you can either be redirected to Skyscanner or Turkish Airlines’ website (roughly €40 more expensive):

First, you’ll fly to Istanbul. From there, you’ll fly to Kuala Lumpur. Both flights are operated by Turkish Airlines. The last flight, however, is operated by Malaysia Airlines, getting you from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne in less than 8 hours. You’ll be served food and drinks on all flights.
Most Europeans need a visa to enter Australia. You can apply for the visa online. It’s best to apply at least 1 month before travelling. The visa is free.
Search & Book
According to the fare rules, this deal is set to expire on September 30, 2024. There’s also a minimum stay requirement of 2 days (or a Sunday) and a maximum of 6 months. We were able to find good availability in November 2024 and March 2025.
Our calendar displays available dates, as does Google Flights. You can either book the tickets through Skyscanner or pay roughly €40 more on Turkish Airlines’ website.
Adding a Stopover in Kuala Lumpur
If you want, you can also spend a few days in Kuala Lumpur in one direction, e.g. on the outbound trip. This would only increase the price by about €40 – which is a fair price to pay to see an additional city on the way.

To search for a ticket with a stopover, you need to use the multi-city search and split Europe-Melbourne or Melbourne-Europe into two, with Kuala Lumpur in between. Here’s an example:
Miles & Points
Turkish Airlines issues these tickets as booking class U. That leaves you with only Turkish Airlines’ own program to credit your flights. At Turkish Miles&Smiles, you’ll get the (really laughable) sum of roughly 3,000 miles.

Information & Tips for Australia
Australia is known for natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, and the beaches of Sydney, along with vibrant cities like Melbourne and Sydney. The local currency is the Australian dollar (AUD), and credit cards are widely accepted. The price level can be high, especially in major cities, but there are budget options available for food and accommodation. The weather varies by region—tropical in the north, temperate in the south, with hot summers and mild winters. The best times to visit are typically during spring and autumn for mild temperatures.
Australia’s transport infrastructure is generally good, with well-developed road networks, public transit systems, and domestic flights. In major cities, public transport options like buses, trams, and trains are widely available, though some areas may require a car for convenience. Between cities, domestic flights are common and fast, but bus and train travel can be slow and less frequent for long distances. Driving is a popular option for exploring regions outside cities, with roads in good condition but long travel times due to the country’s vast size.
