Lufthansa Allegris: New Destinations for the Winter Flight Schedule + Paid Seat Selection Starts in April 2025

Since May 1, Lufthansa has been flying with the new Allegris cabin. As more aircraft were outfitted with the new onboard product, discussions about it quieted down. Even the jokes about the four-year delay have mostly died out, and the shine of the cabin has literally faded.

Now there’s a new round of news about the Allegris product. Lufthansa has updated the overview page for business travellers and provided new updates. In addition to new destinations for the Allegris cabin, there are more updates: from now on, the seat map will be switched to Allegris six weeks before departure. Charges for seat reservations are expected to be introduced only from April 2025.

Overview of Allegris Routes

For the winter flight schedule, Lufthansa plans to operate the following routes with the Allegris cabin. There’s a high chance you’ll encounter it here, though no 100% guarantee:

  • Munich – Shanghai
  • Munich – San Francisco
  • Munich – Cape Town
  • Munich – Bengaluru (from November 9)
  • Munich – Mumbai (from November 15)

Additionally, the Allegris cabin will appear “at various times” this winter on the following routes:

  • Munich – Chicago
  • Munich – New York JFK
  • Munich – Beijing

Lufthansa intends to adjust seat maps about six weeks before departure (previously around four weeks). In other words, passengers will know about one and a half months before departure if they’re flying with the Allegris cabin. Changes are still possible on short notice, though unlikely.

Free Seat Selection Until March 2025

In business class alone, Allegris offers five different seating categories. There should actually be even more, as seats within categories vary significantly, as our guide shows.

In the future, Lufthansa aims to generate additional revenue from this. Only Classic Aisle Seats will likely be available for free selection. Those who want extra privacy, the throne seats with ample storage space, or the suites at the bulkhead will need to pay extra. Only status customers will receive some seats free of charge.

During the initial months, Lufthansa will at least waive these fees in business class. Now Lufthansa has further clarified this introductory phase. Free seat selection will remain available until the end of March 2025:

During the introductory phase, which lasts until the end of March 2025, only a few aircraft will be equipped with the new travel classes. During this time, Business Class passengers will be able choose their preferred seat free of charge from five different seating options, whether it is an Extra Space Seat, Extra Long Bed, Privacy Seat, or Classic Seat (subject to availability). The Business Class Suite will be available exclusively to HON Circle Members and Senators during the introductory phase.

First A350 with New First Class is Ready

There was no news on the new first class for a long time. It was missing in all delivered jets and was temporarily replaced by a row of economy seats due to certification issues.

Now there’s finally positive news. On October 16, Lufthansa transferred the A350 with registration D-AIXW from Toulouse to Munich. This is the first aircraft with a fully completed cabin, including the new first class. It will feature three and a half seats: two by the window, one in the middle, and optionally, the middle suite can accommodate a second person. Pricing details and the date of the maiden flight remain unknown.

I sincerely doubt that I would be willing to pay extra for Lufthansa business class seats. Charging business class passengers for seat selection is a further step in the wrong direction and I will most likely simply fly with someone else. After all, many other airlines can do better than Lufthansa.
