Miles&More has announced that it will permanently credit more (Qualifying) Points for First Class flights. The change applies to all intercontinental flights operated by Lufthansa, Swiss, and the other Star Alliance partners. Starting January 1, 2026, passengers will receive 400 instead of 300 points per flight segment. Lufthansa and Swiss will also add the same number of Qualifying Points.
This is the first adjustment to the status points earning table since the introduction of the new system in January 2024. However, Miles&More has already made it significantly easier to earn status since then. Examples include the current promotion offering 50% more status points on selected routes, up to an 80% bonus for CO₂ compensation, and the UpTrip app.
In a brief statement, Miles&More says about the change:
For First Class flights operated by our Star Alliance airline partners, you’ll earn 400 Points.
Miles&More | Earn more Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points in First Class
We assume this is an error and that continental First Class flights, such as Singapore–Shanghai, will continue to be credited with only 40 points.
Conclusion
Additional status points can certainly be an incentive to book First Class flights. However, they often cost more than twice as much as a comparable business class ticket. The change makes sense. The points credit now reflects the often considerable price difference and is at least a slight improvement.
