China Southern is currently selling cheap premium economy tickets to Auckland and Sydney. These tickets include 2x 23 kg of luggage. While the flights to Auckland sadly come with an 18-hour (daytime) layover in Guangzhou in both directions, flights to Sydney have excellent flight times.
Our availability calendar displays the cheapest dates in green. It can either redirect you to Trip.com (cheapest option) or to China Southern’s booking site (usually roughly €75 more expensive).
On some dates, the flight to Sydney doesn’t have a premium economy and you’d be flying economy. Obviously, that’s not a good deal. So make sure to check the travel class on all segments before booking.

From Amsterdam, you’d first fly to Guangzhou in an Airbus A350-900. That flight takes around 11 hours (half an hour longer on the way back). The second flight then either takes 10h30 to Auckland or 9 hours to Sydney.
Most European citizens don’t need a visa to enter New Zealand for up to three months. An online registration called NZeTA is mandatory.
Most Europeans require a visa to enter Australia. You can apply for the visa online. It’s best to apply at least 1 month before travelling. The visa is free.
Editor’s Note: This deal has three downsides: very long layovers on the flights to/from Auckland, you won’t earn any status miles, and the internet on Chinese airlines sucks. Other than that, it’s a great price for flying to the other end of the world and not sitting in economy class for 20 hours each way.
Search & Book
There’s excellent availability from March until September, except between late June and late July. You can book these tickets directly on China Southern’s website for roughly €1,460, or save some money by booking on Trip.com, which is also a very trustable website.
Miles & Points
These tickets are issued in booking class S. To give you an example, the round-trip to Auckland would get you:
- 22,916 Award Miles on Saudia Alfursan
- 17,186 Award Miles on Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles
- 17,186 Avios on British Airways Club
- 11,460 Award Miles on American AAdvantage
- Customize Calculation
Sadly, you won’t earn any status miles as China Southern isn’t a member of any alliance anymore.
