Once a staple of our site, attractive business class offers by Oneworld airline Qatar Airways have become a rare occurrence. Some trickery might get you a decently priced premium ride anyway. Currently, it is possible to book a trip from Europe to Bangkok and back for NOK 19,250 (~€1,645).
This fare comes with three catches. Firstly, you’d have to start your journey in Oslo and end it in Athens. Secondly, it is one of Qatar Airways’ dreaded Business Light fares. While it includes a business class seat and one checked bag of 23 kg, both seat selection and lounge access come at an additional cost of roughly NOK 4,000 (~€342). Thirdly, A Qsuite is highly unlikely on each of the four flights on these tickets.
Our Go2 tool forwards you to Qatar Airways’ website. You can find these tickets between January and March 2024.

Flights between Oslo and Doha are Boeing 787 services, onward flights to Bangkok are Boeing 787 or Airbus A380 flights. You have no chance on flying in a QSuite on these routes. The last leg from Doha to Athens is operated by either an Airbus A330 or A320. There are no Qsuites on these planes, as well.
Search & Book
According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale until May 31, 2023. A minimum stay of five days applies. We have been able to find flights at the lowest fare from January through March 2024.
Google Flights is the most convenient way to find suitable flight dates. Due to the nature of its multistop search, you still have to use trial and error to find the cheapest tickets. We recommend booking directly with Qatar Airways.
Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
To ease your search, we have compiled a few example dates at the lowest fare:

Information & Tips for Bangkok
Bangkok is known for its vibrant street life, cultural landmarks, and bustling markets. Key sights include the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the lively Khao San Road. The local currency is the Thai baht (THB), and while credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and large stores, cash is preferred for smaller vendors. The city is relatively affordable, with street food and public transport offering great value. Bangkok has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather year-round, a rainy season from May to October, and cooler, more comfortable temperatures from November to February.

Information & Tips for Thailand
Thailand is famous for its vibrant cities, beautiful beaches, and rich cultural heritage. Key sights include the Grand Palace and Wat Pho in Bangkok, the ancient city of Ayutthaya, and the islands of Phuket and Koh Samui. The currency is the Thai baht (THB), and while credit cards are commonly accepted in tourist areas, cash is often preferred in local markets. The cost of living is generally low, with budget accommodations and street food available, but prices can rise in more touristy areas. The weather is tropical, with a hot, rainy season from May to October and a cooler, dry season from November to February.
Getting around Thailand is fairly easy, with a mix of modern and traditional options. In cities like Bangkok, public transport includes the Skytrain (BTS), metro (MRT), and river ferries, which are convenient but can get crowded. Taxis and motorbike taxis are also widely available. For intercity travel, buses and trains are common and affordable, though train journeys can be slow. Domestic flights are frequent and often the fastest way to travel longer distances, especially to popular islands or northern regions. However, traffic congestion in urban areas can be a challenge, particularly during rush hours.

I assume that with a Platinum level in the Privilege Club all the mentioned catches do not apply and Al Safwa Lounge Access is included as well.
Hi Wigand! With a Platinum status, you should have lounge access. You’d still have to live with an open jaw and no Qsuite (aka the other two catches).
I know this fare does not include lounge access, does this still apply with a BA Silver card?
With a Silver card you can access the dedicated lounge for Oneworld Sapphire frequent flyers. But it’s not nearly as nice as the dedicated “Al Mourjan” Business Lounge
Many thanks for this, definitely nice to see a two leg Qatar flight from Western Europe to Asia for under €1,500. Let’s hope this becomes more common. much as I like the Al Mourjan lounge, if your connection time is under two hours it is more hassle than it is worth. Nice to use the lounge every year or so to marvel at the extravagance, however, as a lounge rather than a curiosity, it fails. A lounge for long haul connection should have decent shower availability (I’d not try for a shower if I had less than five hour connection in Doha), ease of access to food and seating and plenty of toilets. Anyone familiar with Qatar’s Doha Al Mourjan lounge will know that the main benefit of visiting the old lounge was to have a space ponder why all passengers don’t go through the Business Class security in transit as they never ever check and also to marvel at the 2.4 acre size of the lounge and the lake. I connect via major Western European airports every week and I value convenience and services above a lake.
