Singapore Airlines: Free & Unlimited Wi-Fi Access (with KrisFlyer Membership)

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is one of the world’s best airlines and has already received numerous awards in the past. Now, the airline aims to impress passengers with its Wi-Fi service. Starting immediately, internet access can be used without time restrictions in all travel classes.

According to Singapore Airlines, the free internet access is available on 129 out of 136 planes in their fleet. The only exception is seven Boeing 737-800 planes, as they are not equipped with Wi-Fi technology. Therefore, you can enjoy the complimentary offer on your long-haul flights to Singapore or other destinations served by the airline.

Previously, complimentary and unlimited Wi-Fi access was limited to passengers in the Suites, First Class, and Business Class. In the Premium Economy Class, there was a three-hour limit, while two hours of free Wi-Fi were granted to the Economy Class.

Conditions

To enjoy the now complimentary Wi-Fi access, you need to be a member of Singapore Airlines’ frequent flyer program, KrisFlyer. You can sign up for the program here for free if you haven’t registered yet.

During the flight booking process, online via the manage booking feature, or at the latest during check-in, you need to enter your KrisFlyer membership number. Please note that the complimentary access in the Economy and Premium Economy Class is only applicable if your KrisFlyer membership has been provided in advance. It is likely not possible to earn miles with another program and still benefit from the free Wi-Fi. Also, there is a small limitation to this free service: video streaming and voice calls are not permitted.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines is one of the first airlines to offer unlimited internet access on long-haul flights. This is particularly beneficial for those who wish to work during a long-haul flight without having to pay expensive fees.

Nevertheless, there are two drawbacks: the inability to stream videos or make calls. Calls are likely restricted primarily out of consideration for other passengers, and video streaming is limited due to high data consumption. Additionally, it appears that internet access is tied to mileage accrual in the Singapore KrisFlyer program, which may not always be the best choice.

while this is a great feature, I am longing for the quietness of the airplane. The time when both your coach neighbors will have a speaker-loud facetime with their beloved ones throughout the entire flight, is not far away. Most people find flights, especially short ones, very boring. Loud entertainment or communication is part of many cultures and it will be difficult to explain why others prefer to read or work in silence.
