Brazil: $311 Star Alliance Flights from Miami ($401 with Luggage)

Rio de Janeiro

Star Alliance member Avianca is currently selling cheap flights to São Paulo, starting at merely US$311 (~€265). Sadly, the price only includes a small personal item, i.e. nothing more than a small backpack. You can, however, add 23 kg of check-in luggage for only $45 in each direction, meaning that the entire trip, with 23 kilograms of luggage only costs $401 – an excellent price.

Another option is flying to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro with Copa Airlines. While the ticket is a couple of dollars more expensive, flying with Copa has a couple of advantages: Copa serves food on its flights, Copa grants you a normal carry-on with its cheapest fare, and Copa lets Star Alliance Gold members check in one piece of luggage for free.

Our calendar displays all available dates for trips of 2–14 days for both routes. You can find both airlines on momondo.com:

With Avianca, you would first fly over 3 hours from Miami to Bogotá, from where you’d continue your trip, 6 hours to São Paulo. All flights are operated using either an Airbus A320neo (with 3-3 seating) or a Boeing 787 (with 3-3-3 seating). Copa Airlines, on the other hand, flies via Panama City and uses a Boeing 737 for all of its flights.

This Avianca fare will probably expire on July 2, 2023 – unless it sells out earlier. Copa’s fare even already expires on June 30!

As you can see in our calendar above, these prices are mainly available between August and November, and between February and May. If you want to travel to Brazil for more than 2 weeks, check out Google Flights to find all available dates.

Information & Tips for Brazil

Brazil is famous for attractions like the Amazon rainforest, the vibrant cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and natural landmarks like Iguazu Falls and Pantanal. The currency is the Brazilian real (BRL), and credit cards are commonly accepted in most places. The price level can vary—major cities and tourist spots can be expensive, but other areas offer more affordable options. Brazil’s weather is tropical, with hot, humid summers, especially in coastal regions, while southern areas experience milder winters. The best time to visit is generally during the dry season, from May to October.

Brazil’s transport infrastructure varies across the country. In major cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, public transport includes buses, metros, and taxis, though traffic congestion can make getting around slow at times. Ride-hailing apps are widely used and convenient. For intercity travel, long-distance buses are a common, affordable option, but they can be slow. Domestic flights are popular for longer distances, offering quick access to destinations like the Amazon or coastal areas. However, outside major cities, transportation options may be less frequent or reliable, requiring more planning.
