ITA Flights to Rio de Janeiro Starting at €555 from Western Europe in November (€718 with Luggage)

You can currently buy tickets to Rio de Janeiro for as little as €555 from various countries in Western Europe, such as Spain, France, the UK, and the Netherlands. The flights are operated by the Italian airline ITA. However, the cheapest price only includes 8 kg of hand luggage, often has you spending a lot of hours in Rome (which you could use for some sightseeing), and is only offered by online travel agencies. If you want to book the flights on ITA’s website, with luggage and short layovers, the price starts at €718.

It is also possible to add a stopover in Rome – i.e. you can spend as many days in Rome as you wish before continuing your trip. More on that below.

Here is the list of cities that you can depart from. Sometimes, you’ll have the option to pay less and spend the entire day in Rome before continuing your trip that night. ITA doesn’t fly to all airports from Rome, so from some cities, you’ll have to have 2 layovers, first flying to Milan, then to Rome, then to Brazil (and vice versa):

ITA uses an Airbus A330 for its 12-hour flight to Brazil. These planes are equipped with a 2-4-2 economy class. You’ll also be served free food and drinks on all flights.

Search & Book

This deal expires on October 3, 2023. You have to fly before December 3, have to spend at least 5 days or a Sunday in Brazil, and cannot stay for more than 3 months.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Add a Stopover in Rome

It is also possible to extend your layover in Rome for multiple days. Hotels and everything else are not included, but it’s a great chance to explore the Italian capital at almost no extra (flight) cost. It doesn’t matter if you add the stopover on the outbound flight, inbound flight, or even both.
