These flights would usually cost at least €100 more

If you’re flying to Bali, the flight times are not particularly great, as you’d have to stay almost 13 hours in Singapore on the outbound flight. Singapore’s Changi Airport does, however, offer many entertainment options, such as free tours of the city, free cinema, a huge shopping mall with restaurants and even a swimming pool. If you’re willing to pay a bit more, you’ll mostly be able to avoid this long layover (often as little as €9 will suffice).

If you’re flying to Jakarta, the tickets are a bit more expensive anyways, but the flight times are great, with very short layover times.

If you’re flying to Bali-Denpasar, very often the flight from Singapore to Bali will be operated by Silk Air. Silk Air belongs to Singapore Airlines. While their flights are also good, if you have the choice between Silk Air and Singapore Airlines, we recommend flying with Singapore Airlines. JetStar will also sometimes be an option, but this is something we would definitely not recommend, as they are a low-cost airline.

Booking directly at the airline is possible in theory, but the prices are far higher, starting at roughly €750.

Information & Tips for Bali

Bali is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant rice terraces in Ubud, and cultural landmarks like Uluwatu Temple and Tanah Lot. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), and while credit cards are accepted in many places, cash is still commonly used, especially in smaller towns and markets. The cost of living is generally low, with affordable food, accommodation, and activities, though luxury options are also available. Bali has a tropical climate with a wet season from November to April and a dry season from May to October, making the latter ideal for outdoor activities.

Bali’s transport infrastructure is fairly basic, and getting around can be challenging, especially during peak hours. Within cities like Denpasar or tourist areas like Kuta and Ubud, traffic congestion is common, and public transportation is limited. Most locals and visitors rely on scooters or ride-hailing apps, which are convenient but can be overwhelming for first-time visitors. Traveling between towns is possible by car or shuttle buses, but the roads are often narrow and winding, making journeys slower than expected.

Information & Tips for Jakarta

Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, offers a mix of colonial history, vibrant markets, and modern attractions like the National Monument (Monas), Kota Tua (Old Town), and Istiqlal Mosque. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), and prices are generally low by international standards, especially for food and transport. The city has a hot, humid climate year-round, with a rainy season from November to March. Traffic can be heavy, so planning extra time for getting around is often necessary.
