Departing from Oslo, you can fly economy class for half the price:

A Lufthansa short-haul plane takes you from Stockholm or Oslo to Frankfurt. That trip will happen in economy class. Flights between Frankfurt and Namibia are operated by Discover Airline’s Airbus A330-300. These planes feature a dedicated premium economy section with 2-3-2 seating, compared to the 2-4-2 in economy class. In contrast to the cheapest economy fare; food, beverages, blankets and pillows are included in the ticket price, too. You can find a review of the product here.

Visa Info

Citizens of Norway and Sweden don’t need a visa to enter Namibia for touristic purposes. You can find more information here.

Search & Book

According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale without a sales or travel period. You need to stay at east ten days in Namibia to score the cheapest tickets.

Google Flights previews available flight dates, but can be inaccurate at times. You can also use Lufthansa’s preview calendar, which is available after entering destination and origin, but no dates, in the search mask on their homepage. That comes with the added benefit of being able to book directly on the airline’s website. Saving €20 by buying tickets from online travel agencies on Skyscanner is probably not worth it.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Information & Tips for Namibia

Namibia is one of the most popular countries to visit in Africa, partly thanks to its desert landscapes and wildlife.

The country is twice the size of Germany, but its population is only about 2,5 million people. You are therefore “on your own” quite often; do not attempt to traverse the deserts in anything but a proper off-road SUV as the roads are little more than dirt roads and pothole riddled paths.

The Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to travel through Namibia is the dry season from May to December. If you visit during the rainy season, be prepared to deal with short yet intense sporadic rainfalls.

Immigration & Visa Requirements

Most EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Namibia for up to 90 days a year, provided their travel is purely for touristic purposes. Contact your state department or ministry of foreign affairs for the full regulations for your nationality.

And if you read the Namibia Forum you will see that Discover regularly reschedules or cancels their flights to WDH ( btw also to ANC as a friend had to discover – still fighting for Compensation). So better make sure you plan 1-2 days around your onsite travel.
I need a flight in April but will try to avoid Discover for that very reason if I can.
