Norwegian Rewards: Status Match Challenge from SAS EuroBonus (Free Luggage, Carry-on, Exit Row & More )

Norwegian 737

It’s rare for low-cost carriers in Europe to have their own frequent flyer programs. If at all, they are usually affiliated with the programs of their respective airline groups (like Eurowings & Vueling). Norwegian Airlines is an exception. Their Norwegian Rewards program offers a choice of various benefits, like free checked baggage and hand luggage, starting at 16 flights per year.

If you currently have an SAS frequent flyer status, things get even better. Norwegian is offering SAS EuroBonus Gold and Diamond status holders their highest tier status for 60 days. This status can then be extended for a year by taking just 2 flights within those 60 days.

With the Priority status, you’ll enjoy the following benefits, even on the cheapest LowCost fare:

  • Free 23 kg checked baggage allowance
  • Free large cabin bag (55 x 40 x 23 cm) – normally costs extra
  • Free seat selection, including exit rows
  • Priority Boarding
  • Security Fast Track at selected airports
  • 6% extra CashPoints (frequent flyer points) on all flights
  • Free hot drink (when available)
  • Reward points do not expire

Normally, you would have to fly 32 segments per year with Norwegian to achieve this status. Note that the benefits apply individually and not to travel companions.

Status Match Only Possible from SAS EuroBonus

The status match is exclusively offered to members of EuroBonus, the frequent flyer program of SAS. You need at least Gold status to be eligible to participate:

  • SAS EuroBonus Silver → not possible
  • SAS EuroBonus Gold → Norwegian Rewards Priority
  • SAS EuroBonus Diamond → Norwegian Rewards Priority
  • SAS EuroBonus Pandion → Norwegian Rewards Priority

Those who hold status with Miles&More, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, British Airways Executive Club, or Finnair Plus may be able to utilize their respective status match programs and then match that status to Norwegian. However, whether this works is unclear, as Norwegian also wants to see previous transactions from the EuroBonus account.

Here’s How It Works

First, if you don’t already have one, you’ll need a Norwegian Rewards account. You can create one for free here. To participate, log in to your account and fill out the form on Norwegian.com. You will be asked for your name, phone number, date of birth, and how long you have been an SAS EuroBonus status holder.

You must also attach a screenshot as proof, which should include the following:

  1. Your current SAS EuroBonus status
  2. Status expiry date
  3. Your name
  4. Recent activity on your EuroBonus account
The Norwegian Status Match form

An expiry date for the offer is not communicated. The match is available as long as the landing page is displayed on Norwegian.com. You can find the complete terms and conditions here.

After completing the form, you will receive an email confirmation. However, processing the application can take up to 30 days. Only then will the 60-day trial period for the Priority status begin.

Extend Your Status for a Year

Once the status match is approved, the Priority status is initially valid for 60 days. The benefits are only valid for newly booked flights, not existing bookings.

You must complete at least two flight segments with Norwegian within the 60-day validity period. A round-trip flight counts as two segments. Again, only newly booked flights count. You’ll need to decide quickly on two Norwegian flights and complete them within two months. At least you can already use the benefits on these flights.

You can often find a round-trip flight from within Scandinavia for less than €90. However, as mentioned, you can only book these flights once your status match has been confirmed by Norwegian.

Norwegian Route Network

After narrowly avoiding insolvency, Norwegian Air has discontinued its entire long-haul network. The focus is now back on flights to, from, and within Norway. However, Norwegian is reopening its base in Gran Canaria to operate flights to Scandinavia.

On the Norwegian website, you will not only find the route network listed but also a flexible search by price. Here are the one-way fares from Bergen in September as an example:
