SQ21/22: €783 / $887 Roundtrips on the World’s Longest Flight from Newark

Star Alliance member Singapore Airlines operates the world’s longest nonstop flight between Singapore Changi and Newark Liberty airport. Currently, the carrier sells roundtrip tickets in premium economy at €783 (~US$918) for trips starting in Newark and €936 (~US$1,097) with departure from Singapore. At the time of writing, this is the cheapest option to enjoy this flight twice. Oneways from Newark start at €601 (~US$704).

Singapore Airlines operates an Airbus A350-900ULR on this route. The abbreviation ULR is short for Ultra Long Range. These planes were specifically designed to fly routes like this and feature only business class and premium economy seats – because of this, this fare is the lowest price you might get.

This deal will remain valid until July 25, 2020. The travel period for the absolutely cheapest flights from Newark is sadly quite restricted: you can fly from 26th November until December 9th. Nevertheless, if you’re flying from Singapore or are willing to pay roughly €150 (~US$176) more from Newark, you’ll have a far wider range of available dates.

You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
