The Route

The cruise departs from the northern Italian port city of Savona. In the early evening, around 5 p.m., the ship leaves the harbour, and the first three destinations in the Mediterranean are on the agenda: Marseille, Barcelona, and Málaga. The advantage is that you can explore all three cities in mid-November, outside of the main tourist season and away from the usual crowds.

The Costa Toscana then sails through the famous Strait of Gibraltar and arrives at the port of Cádiz. This Andalusian coastal city boasts a large market hall with a wide variety of fish and seafood, as well as sandy beaches stretching several kilometres. The next stop is Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, which is also home to Spain’s highest mountain, Mount Teide.

After 10 relaxing sea days on the Atlantic, you will reach Walvis Bay in Namibia. The surrounding area offers rich flora and fauna, including a large bird sanctuary that is home to thousands of flamingos. The journey continues to Cape Town, arguably the most touristically attractive city in South Africa, where a visit to Table Mountain is a must. The next stop is Port Elizabeth, where an overnight stay in port is planned.

In the Indian Ocean, the Costa Toscana sails to Mauritius. After another six days at sea, the ship reaches Muscat, the capital of Oman. The cruise ends after 37 nights in Dubai.

Flights

To fly back to Europe at the end of the cruise, you’ll have plenty of options, as most European airlines fly to the United Arab Emirates. Make sure to not only check the prices from Dubai, but also from Sharjah (around 30 km away) and Abu Dhabi (around 105 km away). Here are some examples of what you’d pay, including checked luggage, for a one-way flight back to Europe:
