You often read about the longest flights in the world, but we asked ourselves: Which are the longest flights of each airline? Is this information useful? Maybe not. But for a long-haul flight fan like me, for whom a flight can never be long enough, the information is at least interesting. And if someone wants to know, e.g. where they can maximize their time in the QSuite, where using an upgrade voucher is particularly worthwhile, or simply wants to show off some frequent flyer trivia, then this is the chance.

- The World’s Longest Flights
Aegean Airlines
The first airline in the article is not exactly known for long flights. The Greek Star Alliance member doesn’t even have long-haul aircraft in its fleet, and the longest flight is only about 5 hours long, to Dubai. The flight to the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi is slightly shorter.

Aer Lingus
The Irish airline Aer Lingus operates many routes to North America for cultural, geographical, and historical reasons, particularly to the East Coast, where many people of Irish descent live. But other regions of the U.S. are also served, and these are the longest routes of the airline. Los Angeles tops the list with about 10 hours of flight time.

Aeroflot
Now, a list that mainly makes us Europeans go “aha,” but not one we’d book. While the Russian airline has completely stopped flights to Europe (except Belarus) and the USA, Aeroflot still flies quite a few long-haul routes to Asia. The longest is the flight from Bali to Moscow, with over 12 hours of flight time.
Route | Distance | Aircraft type | Flight time |
---|---|---|---|
Moscow – Bali | 10,063 km (6,253 mi) | Airbus A350-900 | SVO – DPS : ~ 11:40 hDPS – SVO : ~ 12:30 h |

Aeromexico
Aeromexico is the first airline in the article where things really get interesting. The connection between Mexico and South Korea is especially fascinating. Thanks to the wind direction, Aeromexico manages to fly directly from Seoul to Mexico City — a distance of over 12,000 km. However, the wind and the altitude of Mexico City become a problem in the other direction, so the plane lands in closer-located Monterrey to refuel. While the flight from Korea to Mexico takes only 12-13 hours, the return journey takes a solid 15 hours. And the flight to Tokyo is not much shorter — but just short enough to be flown non-stop in both directions.
Route | Distance | Aircraft type | Flight time |
---|---|---|---|
Seoul – Mexiko City | 12,095 km (7,516 mi) | Boeing 787-8 | ICN – MEX : ~ 12:30 h |
Monterrey – Seoul | 11,465 km (7,124 mi) | Boeing 787-8 | MTY – ICN : ~ 14:55 h |
Mexiko City – Tokyo | 11,253 km (6,993 mi) | Boeing 787-8 | MEX – NRT : ~ 14:15 hNRT – MEX : ~ 11:35 h |

Air Canada
With Air Canada, the longest routes are from the West Coast to Singapore and Australia and from the East Coast to India. Although the flights from the West Coast are actually significantly longer, the wind and the Russian airspace closure have made the flight times of all five routes quite similar — the shorter routes to India currently take longer than the flights to Australia.

Air China
Air China’s main hub is in the Chinese capital, Beijing, but the longest route goes from its hub in Shenzhen. The longest flight from Beijing is similarly long — but is only operated non-stop in one direction. Again, wind plays a role here, and as the flight time would otherwise be too long, the Boeing 777 makes a stop in Los Angeles on the return flight. Another unique flight is the trip from New York to Beijing: at over 16 hours, it is currently the longest flight operated by a Boeing 747.

Air Europa
Air Europa’s longest route is a real eye-catcher, as it is the only long-haul flight from Cordoba, Argentina. And the other routes are also not only to South America but also to less-frequented destinations like Montevideo and Asuncion.

Air France
With Air France, the longest routes are to South America, with Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Lima among the top four. The other two routes on the list take us to Southeast Asia. Although the five routes have relatively similar flight times, the situation around Russia has resulted in Air France’s longest flight times not even appearing on this list. Due to the detour, flights from Japan to Paris now take around 14-15 hours, even longer than the flight to Santiago.

Air India
With Air India, we are slowly entering the ultra-long-haul territory. A transpacific flight from the U.S. West Coast to India already reaches 17 hours. But the transatlantic flights from India to the U.S. East Coast are also around 15 hours long — likely longer than most economy passengers would prefer.

Air New Zealand
Although the longest flight of Air New Zealand is already quite hefty at just under 17 hours, the other four routes are not as long as one might have expected. The formerly second-longest route to Chicago has been discontinued, making the list less exciting than anticipated.

Alaska Airlines
The relatively fresh Oneworld member from the U.S. operates no long-haul routes and has no long-haul aircraft. Nevertheless, its Boeing 737s fly for over six hours at a time. While the two longest routes depart from the airline’s namesake state, Alaska, to Chicago and Hawaii, the other three routes depart from the airline’s other hubs on the U.S. West Coast: Los Angeles and Seattle.

All Nippon Airways
While four of ANA’s five longest routes are to the United States, Mexico City has claimed the top spot. The outbound flight to Mexico is not particularly impressive at just under 12 hours, but the return flight boasts a flight time of 14 hours. The return flight from Washington D.C. is similarly long. ANA even operates flights from both Tokyo airports to Chicago, with the flight from/to Haneda being slightly longer.

American Airlines
While many airlines have similar longest routes, American Airlines goes all over the place. The longest routes travel to Australia, the third from Texas to China, the fourth one crosses the Atlantic from New York to India, and the fifth heads to Korea. And again, due to the Russian airspace closure and the wind, the fourth-longest route has the longest flight time despite a much shorter distance.

Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines’ longest flights head in very different directions. The longest route goes all the way west to Los Angeles. Then there are two routes to East Asia, one to Southeast Asia, and Mauritius has also made it onto the list. Except for Tokyo — mainly due to the current necessary detour — the flight times are overall not particularly impressive.

British Airways
From its main hub at London Heathrow, it’s quite a distance to the south—whether it’s South America, Southeast Asia, or South Africa. But London Gatwick also makes it onto this list, with the 11-12 hour flight to Mauritius.

Brussels Airlines
Brussels Airlines is clearly focused on Africa, which is not hard to see from the following list. The Lufthansa subsidiary also likes to operate triangular routes, which means that many routes are only flown non-stop in one direction. With 8-9 hours of flight time, Brussels Airlines also only offers relatively short long-haul routes.

Cathay Pacific
With Cathay Pacific, we have an airline with quite long flights, all going in the same direction. From Hong Kong to North America, it’s about 14 hours in both directions. As with many Asian airlines, New York is the longest route.

China Eastern
For this Asian airline as well, New York is the farthest destination. However, not all flights lead to North America, as there is also a route to Madrid. In fact, there are two, as China Eastern flies to the Spanish capital not only from its main hub in Shanghai but also from Wenzhou.

China Southern
As is often the case when Asia-Mexico is on the schedule, things get interesting here. The longest flight covers over 14,000 km from Shenzhen to Mexico City. As mentioned with Aeromexico, the headwind on the return journey makes the flight too long. So, China Southern refuels in Tijuana on the way back and then flies almost 16 hours from there back to Shenzhen. If anyone had the non-stop route Tijuana-Shenzhen on their radar before this article, I want to congratulate you on your fantastic flight schedule knowledge and offer you a job at Travel-Dealz.

Delta Air Lines
Now to the U.S. SkyTeam member, Delta. Here, passengers from South Africa spend the longest time on board, with almost 16 hours of flight time to Atlanta—from both Johannesburg and Cape Town. If that flight isn’t long enough, they can continue from Atlanta for another 15 hours to Seoul. But the hubs in Los Angeles and Detroit also make it onto the list, with flights to Sydney and Shanghai.

Discover Airlines
Lufthansa’s holiday airline may not reach over 12 hours on any route, but it has significantly longer flights than its sister in Brussels. The destinations are quite interesting and are rarely (if ever) featured in the rest of the article. Windhoek and the Maldives usually don’t have flights to such distant locations.

Edelweiss Air
Now that we’ve covered Lufthansa’s holiday airline, let’s move on to the holiday airline of its Swiss sister. The longest flight is to Costa Rica. There, the capital San José is served, but once a week, Edelweiss operates a triangular route to another city in the same country: Zurich – San José – Liberia – Zurich. This one return flight from Liberia has claimed the title of the longest flight.

Emirates
From the megacity of Dubai, you have to fly quite far to reach the USA. But it’s even farther to Auckland. Over 14,000 km and around 16 hours of flight time are really long—but one thing stands out compared to similarly long routes of other airlines: Emirates operates the route with the Airbus A380 double-decker.

Ethiopian Airlines
It’s a long way from Ethiopia to America. The outbound flight is apparently too long for Ethiopian Airlines, as they always fly it via Rome. However, the return trip is non-stop back to Addis Ababa, with flight times around 13 hours—not too impressive.

Etihad Airways
From Abu Dhabi, it’s similarly long to Australia and North America, with flight times of around 13-14 hours. Etihad doesn’t operate true ultra-long-haul routes.

Finnair
Finnair focuses heavily on Asia due to its geographical location. Destinations like Japan are less than 8,000 km away, while the U.S. West Coast is about 9,000 km distant. However, the political situation around Russia has hit Finnair hard, as it now takes over 2 hours longer to fly to Japan than to Los Angeles, despite the much shorter distance. Nevertheless, Singapore remains the farthest destination.

Iberia
With Iberia, you can see the historical connection with South America, as four of the longest routes go there. However, from the end of October 2024, Iberia will have a new longest route, and it goes in a completely different direction: To Tokyo-Narita.

ITA Airways
ITA, Alitalia’s successor, has Buenos Aires as its longest route—surely due to the Italian background of much of the local population. California and Brazil are also on the list, as well as the flight with the current longest flight time: Tokyo-Rome.

Kenya Airways
For no other airline is the distance so different between the longest and second-longest route as it is with Kenya Airways. While the nearly 12,000 km to New York takes about 15 hours, it’s only about 7,000 km to Bangkok, with a flight time of around 9 hours. The three routes to Europe are also only 8-9 hours long.

KLM
At KLM, Buenos Aires takes the title of the longest route, far ahead of Lima and Singapore, which are almost exactly the same distance from Amsterdam, although they are on completely different ends of the earth. A triangular route also makes the list, with the return flight from Guayaquil. KLM flies via Quito on the outbound flight. Much like its partner Air France, the longest flights in terms of time are not listed here: due to the Russian invasion and the resulting airspace closure, the return flight from Japan now takes about 14 hours.

LATAM
South America, and especially Santiago, is quite far away from all other continents. So, it doesn’t matter whether you’re flying to Australia, Europe, or California—it will definitely be a long flight of at least 11 hours. Interesting: The flight from Santiago to Melbourne occasionally flies over parts of Antarctica depending on the wind conditions.

LOT
If you only think of Warsaw when it comes to LOT, you’re mistaken. The airline also operates enough long-haul routes from other Eastern European cities, e.g. they fly from Budapest and even from Wrocław to Seoul. However, the three longest flights depart from Warsaw, and they fly to Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Miami.

Lufthansa
Buenos Aires is also the farthest destination for Lufthansa. Next comes Singapore twice, as Lufthansa flies to the home airport of its Southeast Asian Star Alliance partner from both hubs. The flights from Munich are operated by an A350, while the Frankfurt flights have the “Queen of the Skies” operating them.

Philippine Airlines
Even though most readers probably don’t care about Philippine Airlines, the airline has truly earned its place in this article, as it has two flights over 16 hours in its schedule. And even the significantly shorter flights to the U.S. East Coast, with their 12-14 hours, surpass those of many other airlines.

Qantas
Qantas also offers true ultra-long-haul flights. From Perth to Europe, it’s over 17 hours. The flights from Dallas to the airline’s home country are also over 16 hours long. And while Qantas can’t make it non-stop from New York to Australia (at least not until 2026), instead, there’s a stop in Auckland—after already spending over 16 hours in the air.

Qatar Airways
If you want to spend as much time as possible in a QSuite, you should fly to Auckland, because the inbound flight is almost 17 hours long. This flight, by the way, is also the second-longest flight in the world. But the routes from Doha to the U.S. are also pleasantly long—though for Europeans, that’s quite an absurd detour.

SAS
SAS doesn’t stand out with its long-haul routes. The flight times are rarely double digits, especially since Shanghai will now be removed from SAS’ route network. It’s also interesting that of the three Scandinavian hubs, only Copenhagen made it onto the list.

Saudia
Washington is remarkably far from Saudi Arabia. However, that doesn’t stop Saudia from flying to the U.S. capital from two different cities. The same scenario applies to the flights to New York, with flights from Riyadh always being longer than those from Jeddah.

Singapore Airlines
No article about long flights would be complete without mentioning Singapore Airlines—the operator of the longest flight in the world. We’ve personally reported on this truly ultra-long flight between Singapore and New York. The A350 was specially designed for this route, entirely without an economy class. But even the premium economy isn’t exactly comfortable on a flight of nearly 18 hours. From Singapore to New York, the flight goes over the Pacific, while the return flight takes a route over the Atlantic. Officially, the flight to JFK is longer, but the return flight from Newark takes longer in terms of flight time due to the routing.
The flights from California to Singapore are also impressive, with over 16 hours of flight time—and here, there are regular economy class seats again. In Europe, Manchester is the farthest destination, with nearly 14 hours of flight time.

South African Airways
Now, for one last look at Africa. The Star Alliance member from South Africa has had very few long-haul routes in its schedule since the pandemic—but it does have two to São Paulo. However, the flight to Perth is even longer. The rest of the list is at a mid-range level.

Singapore also plays a role with Swiss, as the city is the farthest destination from Zurich. The flights to Brazil, Japan, and California are not much shorter.

TAP Air Portugal
Portugal’s colonial history is clearly visible in the following list. The relatively new flight to Florianopolis in Brazil has taken second place, and Maputo in Mozambique follows just 46 km behind in third place. The real surprise may be that the next two routes operate from Porto. Of course, TAP also flies from Lisbon to these destinations, but that’s somewhat closer than Porto in northern Portugal.

Turkish Airlines
Once again, Mexico is involved—but, once again, only in one direction. From Istanbul, you can fly non-stop for 13-14 hours to the Mexican capital. The return flight, however, goes via Cancun. It’s surprising that no Turkish Airlines flight lasts more than 14 hours, given the airline’s size and range of destinations.

United Airlines
At United, four hubs made the list. From San Francisco, there are flights to Singapore and Australia. From Los Angeles, also to Australia. On the other coast, planes depart for South Africa, both from New York and Washington DC. All routes are similarly long, at around 15 hours.

Virgin Atlantic
To conclude, here’s an airline that only operates long-haul flights. However, they’re not particularly long. Almost all Virgin Atlantic flights are under 11 hours, and the only flight that’s longer (to Shanghai) will be discontinued at the end of October.
