Choice Hotels: Buy Points With a 45% Discount and Save Over 40% at Hotels in Japan, USA, Austria, Italy, France, & More

around Takayama Choice

Choice Privileges, Choice Hotels’ loyalty program, is currently selling award points with a 45% discount1. While Choice Hotels still fly under the radar in most European countries, having 7,000 properties worldwide is quite an impressive number. The sale ends on September 29, 2025.

Later in this article, we provide a couple of redemption examples, where you can save up to 60% by booking the hotel with purchased points instead of cash.

1In the past, some Choice promotions were targeted. We can’t guarantee that everyone is eligible for the 40% discount.

Hint

If you have trouble using the link, it’s probably because of your ad blocker.

Choice Points can be especially valuable in the Nordics, as by buying points you can often save around 50% on your hotel stays. While most Nordic hotels recently got more expensive, now costing 12,000 instead of previously 10,000 or 8,000 points, you can still strike a bargain. Other countries, such as the UK, Germany, Japan, and the USA, are also worth having a look at. We have been able to find instances where award nights are up to 75% cheaper than cash rates when using points from the sale.

You should, however, also consider if you’ll be able to spend the points soon, as simply accumulating points without a precise purpose is generally not recommended.

Info

While you can save quite a bit of money at many hotels by booking them with purchased points, the price isn’t good enough to simply buy them without a clear plan of where you want to spend them. First, look for redemption options and compare prices, then decide if purchasing the points is worth it.

Buy Points for 0.484 Cents per Point

You can purchase choice points all year long at a fixed price of roughly a cent per point. A history of past promotions can be found at the bottom of the article.

The current sale is scheduled to end on September 29, 2025. You need to purchase at least 18,000 points to get the 45% discount, and the maximum number of points that you can purchase is 180,000 points for US$1,020 (~€870).

Book Hotels Starting at €39

If you have bought the points as described above, you’ll receive them within 24 hours, followed by a confirmation email. Now you can start redeeming them for hotels. In and outside Europe, you can get an award night starting at 8,000 points.

Choice Awards divides hotels into nine categories with fixed prices for award nights. Based on a purchase at 0.484 Euro cents per point, you can expect the following prices:

  • 6,000 points (29.04€) – not in Europe
  • 8,000 points (38.72€)
  • 10,000 points (48.40€)
  • 12,000 points (58.08€)
  • 15,000 points (72.60€)
  • 20,000 points (96.80€)
  • 25,000 points (121.00€)
  • 30,000 points (145.20€)
  • 75,000 points (363.00€)

Examples with up to 60% Savings

Here are some more examples of savings of up to 60%:

In almost all hotels in Scandinavia, a generous breakfast buffet is included, and Clarion Collection hotels even serve a light dinner for free. Award nights are available up to a year before arrival. You can cancel them for free until the day of arrival.

Points Don’t Expire if You Had an Activity within 18 Months

Choice Privileges points will expire after 18 months of inactivity on your account. However, as soon as you carry out a transaction, the validity is extended again to a full 18 months.

Your points are therefore valid indefinitely as long as every 18 months you at least:

  • Earn a point by sleeping in a hotel
  • Book a reward night
  • Buy at least 2,000 points

Past Promotions

Choice regularly gives up to a 40% bonus or 25% discount – but rarely more. These were the last promotions:

TimeOfferBest price per 1,000 points
August 202540% Discount$6.18 (~€5.33)
May 202530% Discount$7.21 (~€6.46)

Status Match to Choice Privileges

Hint: Choice Hotels offers a simple status match. The benefits are sadly quite weak, but as it’s free, why not do it?

In the Nordics, Strawberry (which used to be “Nordic Choice Hotels”) has its own membership program with its own, better benefits. You can redeem regular Choice Points, but the status will not always be recognised. Hotels in Japan also don’t grant status benefits.

    Thank you for the article!

  2. M. says:

  3. Viking says:

Hello, Did the offer change to 40% more bonus points?

    • Felix says:

Hi Viking! The 50% bonus promotion is over. It seems like the current promotion gives 40% more points.

    • Peer says:

As Felix said, the promo has now ended. If you don’t need the points, I would recommend to wait until Apr. 29 19:00 CET. Once a year, you can grab the best possible price during the US Travel “Daily Getaways”. But you should set an alarm and be quick, they can sell out in just a few minutes.

Thank you both!… I already bought and used them for a booking in May. I couldnt find any other interesting hotel for Copenhague or Rome thought. Their availability or range of hotels are limited.

  5. Saul Sotelo Gallardo says:

Hello, I’m going to Stockholm on May 10th thinking spending 4 nights. Would you recommend me getting this deal of Choice Points?
Will awards nights be available at for example at Clarion Hotel Sign? I read your post that award nights are available up to 100 days before arrival. So I’m not sure I will be able to use the points.

    • Peer says:

Usually, availability is quite good. You can always check the availability at choicehotels.com, even when you don’t have enough points.

Currently, the “Superior Room” is still available with points from 10 to 14 of May 2023. But it can take 2 or 3 days for the posts to post, so we can’t guarantee anything.

    • Ditmar Lange says:

The stay has to be less than 100 days from now, so today you could book stays from now until July 7. So, yes, you can use them.
