São Paulo & Rio de Janeiro: $376 Copa Airlines Flights from Miami ($502 w/ Checked Bags)

Star Alliance member Copa Airlines has issued an exceptionally low fare for flights between Miami and Brazil in the 2023 autumn. Flights to Rio de Janeiro are available at US$367 (~€337), while you can reach São Paulo for just a little more. The cheapest fare including checked bags is available for US$502 (~€461) on Copa Airline’s website. All trips include a change of planes in Panama City both ways.

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to skyscanner with your selected flight dates. You can also check Copa Airlines’ website via momondo. While the airline sells these tickets for $10, it is the cheapest place to purchase tickets including checked bags.

Copa Airlines uses Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737MAX8 aircraft for all flights. These planes feature the usual 3-3 seating pattern and personal monitors for each passenger.

According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale until April 4, 2023 for travel before November 1, 2023. On this day, your inbound has to arrive in Miami. There is no minimum or maximum stay. Flights to Rio de Janeiro show scattered availability, with no tickets available in June or July. The cheapest fare to São Paulo pops up almost daily.

Google Flights helps you find additional flight dates. Since prices on Copa Airlines’ website are just a little higher than booking with online travel agencies, we recommend purchasing your tickets there. Especially if you wish to travel with checked bags.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Be careful: you need a yellow fever immunization certificate for the return trip (from Brazil to Panama).
