Last year, SAS announced that starting in June 2025, they would resume regular scheduled flights to Greenland. Up to three times a week, flights will operate between Copenhagen and Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, and back.
Shortly after the initial announcement, award tickets to Greenland were briefly available at great rates. However, SAS quickly removed all of the affordable options. Fortunately, things have improved, and flights to Greenland can now be booked for numerous dates between June and August 2025 at a cost of 15,000 miles plus taxes per direction.
According to the SAS EuroBonus award chart, Greenland is classified within the Europe zone. Therefore, an award ticket costs the same as flying to France or Austria—starting at 15,000 points in economy class or 25,000 in SAS Plus when departing from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland.
The following prices are for a roundtrip, including 8 kg hand luggage and 23 kg checked baggage:
- From Copenhagen for 30,000 miles + €104 (nonstop)
- From Stockholm for 30,000 miles + €115
- From Berlin for 30,000 miles + €136 (w/ 2 nights in Copenhagen)
- From Oslo for 30,000 miles + €144
These countries are classified under the Nordic+ region in the award chart, making tickets relatively affordable. From other European countries, roundtrip awards cost 50,000 points in SAS Go and 70,000 in SAS Plus.

Typically, SAS charges nearly €600 from Copenhagen and over €800 for roundtrip flights from other European countries. And that’s for a basic fare that only allows a personal item—perfect for those planning a Greenland adventure with just a briefcase. The Smart fare, which includes hand and checked luggage, would add at least €60 to the cost, whereas an award ticket includes everything.
From Greenland to Canada
A one-way flight from Nuuk to Iqaluit costs €268, and the reverse direction is even cheaper. While this isn’t the most cost-effective way to cross the Atlantic, it’s certainly a unique experience.
Flying United between Newark and Nuuk would be simpler, but those prices are astronomically high.
Climate
Flights to Greenland are currently bookable from late June to August 2025. According to weather data, you can expect temperatures between 5°C and 10°C during this time.
